Barred Rocks Typically nice chickens?

Here's a really poor photo of the barred rock I raised from a mixed bunch of chicks from Cackle Hatchery with a friend. She is the absolute sweetest one of the bunch! They all turned out to be great birds but she is bigger and fatter and friendlier by far! She also likes to sleep outside on a nice night. She always sleeps in the same spot and I pet her "good night" and she clucks back. I want to raise more barred rocks in the spring! the banty in the back is Peppy and Cloud is the pigeon behind her.

I can't say enough about Barred Rocks. All of Lexie and Hawkeye's progeny have their same steady, sweet temperament, even the cockerels. I hatched a cockerel from my friend Kate's Barred Rock flock and was planning to keep him for a second rooster, but decided after he was being chased too much by Hawkeye, that he deserved his own flock. I miss him (some of you remember Maverick), but the person who bought him said she couldnt imagine a more sweet-tempered flock rooster.
Awesome breed, just awesome. Orpingtons are right up there, as well. In future years, I can see my own flock being nothing but Barred Rocks and Orps of various colors.

I'm weighing in on the side of BR's, too. I only have one, Henny Penny, right now. I bought her out of pity, as the owner had put her in a pen with a bunch of "strangers", and she was being picked on pretty badly. But from the day I brought her home, she took charge. She and my roo, Pimp Daddy, (part BR) are a real pair. They talk to each other, and he literally feeds her. I know they mate, but their mating seems to be very private. Also, Henny Penny is smarter than my BO's. They are pretty dumb, whereas you can see some intelligence in her eyes. Not much, granted, but then they're chickens, not well known for their smarts. I want to go with all BR's when the time comes. Lastly, Henny Penny's eggs are beautiful, big and dark brown where the BO eggs are cream to beige brown.

I am a new owner to chickens and I was searching for the same answer as you on the barred rocks. Mine are 4 weeks old and ever since we got them (2 of them) they are the sweetest. One of them in particular always comes over to me to be held and will follow me around waiting to be petted. I just love her, she is the cutest and sweetest thing. She now has a special place in my heart.
