Barred Rocks

Could someone please explain if the barring is dom./rec., and what happens with a barred rock hen/ other breed rooster? I know a mutt, but does the barring show or will the offspring most likely take the roosters coloring? Would chick gender affect the outcome?

Edited to say: I am in love with all the black and white breeds. I will have only barred rocks to stay, but was thinking of the SLWs and I love some of the mottled breeds.
