Barred Rocks!!

XWPoultry Ranch is in Nebraska, not far from you.  Jeremy is the owner/breeder and is a member here as JWhip.  You can send him a private message and ask about getting on his late winter, early spring list.  XW has a website I believe.

Good Shepherd Poultry Ranch also has a website.  They aren't that far from you either.  They have really great birds as well. Frank Reese has been breeding them for a long, long time.
I checked on the Good Shepherd Poultry Ranch and it looks like all they have is turkeys. I sent the XW poultry ranch a message. Thanks for your help!

they are my favorite breed, just a little above EE.

Here are our two. Pepper and Paprika (she has a little bit of brownish flecks on her)

Haha my hen also just stares at the nest boxes the whole time, just like that. It's so funny!

This is more of a question of what my recently acquired 'Barred Rocks' might be. They are barred, have very red faces, and nice delicate single combs with dainty wattles but they have grey/slate shanks, and their barring is not 'clear'...it's almost more of a cuckoo type barring. They're also built like bulldogs. For as small as they are, they're heavy! They lay big, pale brown eggs. Did I just get some poorly bred hatchery stock or is it possible they're a crossbred or some other breed I'm not familiar with? I'll try to get some photos but they're a) all molting BAD...poor girls and b) moving really really fast.

Hi y'all! I need help!! Are these hens or roosteres? I am only getting approx one egg a day. I believe I have 3 barred roosters and 2 barred hens, but not good at identifying them. Three of them with the huge combs crow, but one of the other ones has a decent comb, so is it a rooster too? Also I have 2 salmon faverolles, but I am not sure if one is a rooster(the multi colored one bc the comb) I have never heard her crow, but do they all crow if they are a rooster? Those barred rock roosters I have are a little intimidating bc they are so so huge! Any help would be great.

I feed them a multi food source diet from Tractor Supply, balanced feed including minerals oyster shell etc, and supplement with the huge (10 X 10) variety seed block and feed em herbs, fruit and veggies. Not sure what I am doing wrong... Do the salmons just mature later than others?

We got em a week before Easter.

Any help would be much appreciated!!! :)
Fiona
little comb (I think she is a hen and my single egg layer?)
Tiger
smaller rooster (large comb)

Loudie
big comb rooster

Tornado (huge rooster)

Tornado's tall comb. He likes posing for the camera!

Cheeto
I think a hen, but the comb is pretty tall for a hen, isn't it?

There is the little pretty sweetie

Cowboy / Cowgirl (we would like to know ...)

Cow______????

And there is my other Salmon Faverolles, I don't know what to think about this one. Kids think Cow____ is the coolest chicken we have... all the awesome coloring and it is sweet too, bigger comb but no crowing? What are your thoughts?

Thanks so much!!

Thanks so much! The kids have been calling him Cowboy so that works! I guess I should be thankful he isn't loud. I have read that the Salmon Roosters are really super noisy and he has yet to crow. I appreciate your reply, have a great week!

Hopefully between the three girls we will start getting some more eggs.

Take care!
