Barred Rocks!!

Hello all. I am on my first Barred Rock. She is 11(ish) weeks. She is one of our more friendly chickens. I love her. This was her a while ago. It was the only picture I could find of her (other than my profile picture)

yep they are super friendly, and have 2/4 that before they were old enough to lay eggs wanted to be mommas so banded them in case need a substitute. Wondering if it is they are just natural mommas or due to them being raised by a duck though lol.

They do tend to ignore you if they are focused on something where my baby reds as soon as they are called no matter what they are doing pay attention.

Well I got a cockrel last month that was almost 3 months old for my hens, but he was kinda dumb I think, he was a jerk to the hens and lost 3/4 of them to an suprise EE cockrel that is always good to them. Hopefully with time he straightens up and gets them back but if not it's his loss. He would get to stay anyway as my flock is free ranging and he and the duck do great teamwork keeping the flock safe, he will attack anything that comes near the flock that isn't bringing them food and water.

Way rehome this crazy barred rock rooster to the stew pot, he is terroizing the flock including the duck and drake, wants to breed anything that moves whether they are receptive or not.

so far nothing has worked , harder to break that than a broody hen lol

I finally had to butcher my BR cockerel. He was very good to his flock, but became way too aggressive to myself and my family. The day he attacked my face as I stooped down to give them their food was the last straw. I can tolerate being charged and challenged from time to time but a full-on assault on my face is a whole different story. He processed out at over 5.5 lbs and tasted absolutely delicious.

well that worked, this is a restarted flock we raised from chicks, we went and got some older hens that after a night of him in chicken Jail in the middle of them they schooled the rooster and now he is treating the others better, we will see how things go, we took leghorns home and suprize this afternnoon we watched one of them lay 2 eggs and decide to brood lol, still enough older chickens though mixed to keep him in check cause they aren't gonna tolerate his shenanigans.

Peace has finally returned to the flock and he's minding his manners so he don't get picked on by the older hens
