Barred Rocks!!

I have 16 altogether. 12 pullets and 4 cockerels. These pullets are 7 weeks old. These are THE friendliest chickens ever. I cant go in there without them fling all over me. AND I thought leghorns were flighty. HAHAHA these are just as flighty if not more. But wonderful birds.

My two barred rocks are right at 10 weeks old now, can any of you tell me what their adult size will be like in comparison to a Rhode Island Red? They seem so much smaller than my Rhode Island Reds.

Here they are at about 4 weeks :)

What lovely little pullets! I don't have any experience with RIRs, but my two BR pullets, now about 6 months old, weigh in around 5 pounds.

Thank you, they are the sweetest, most docile chicks I have. They love to be held and to stay right up beside me when I'm in the yard. Sweet babies!

From my experience Barred Rocks are about the same height, but a bit stockier. I would say the Rhode Island red is a slightly more "athletic" chicken than a Barred Rock. If you have enough of either one, though, there will always be a few stockier Rhode Islands and a few leaner Barred Rocks. But in general the Barred Rock will be a bit heavier.

I have seen some BR hens with decent sized combs but something about this one had me questioning. I may be psyching myself out here, but I feel like I see spur bumps starting too?! This chick is 11 weeks old.

Cockerels, pullets do not have big comb and wattles at that age

For comparison this is my cockerel (left) and pullet (right) 10 weeks
