Barred Rocks!!

We have a new member of the flock as of today, and we figured out who the mystery rooster was at same time and were able to find a home for him as wasn't interested in asterlops

meet Mr Pibbs

does this mean though that she is getting close to laying or she is gonna be a brooder more than a layer when she is old enough, She is at the top of the pecking order of the chicks but has never terrified anyone of the chicks or ducks before today, we did move boxes around and pulled the golf balls out of the coop to see if this changed her attitude cause she's got like I said even a duckzilla scared of her right now and normally she is as sweet as can be, only ones she is tolerating are the really young chicks.

I don't want to have to isolate her really but if this is how she is going to act she will be, and allowed out for free ranging with the others. Don't know what else to do, so if you have any suggestions let me know please.

I wish I could offer you some insight, but I've yet to experience a broody hen of any age and really have no idea what to think about one appearing so "moody" at such a young age.

Can anyone tell me about my hen? I got her with two others and we're told they were all barred Plymouth rocks but she is different from the others I've seen.

Well that seemed to help, moving the nests around and added Mr Pibbs a 2 month old barred rock cockerel into the mix and found a surprise cockerel the astrolop and re-homed it, now peace has returned to the flock lol.

Today he was introduces to the smallest members of the flock and gets along great with them too. So Glad it is peaceful now even the duck didn't have a problem with him but he isn't sure what to think about them lol.

Here are two of my BR cockerels and my only BR pulllet. Out of 8 straight run free chicks she is the only pullet. I tried to pick, black splashing on legs, small defined to no dot on head, petite legs, darkest colored down. Oh well, the 7 cockerels will make a great dinner.

he does too unless he's in trouble lol, real sweet heart too, we have chicks almost 2 weeks old out in the run and he chases em in the coop if they are out free ranging as he's still trying to get a handle on unruly older chicks and the ducks . He still ain't figured out what to think about the ducks, but he's starting to get more assertive with all of them, was probably the one that got picked on the most at his old home they hatched 25 and ended up with 15 cockerels, acted like a big baby first couple of days even the pullets would pick on him but this morning something had changed . Might have been they all got freaked out with crazy storm that went through but he's clearly in charge now of the ducks and chicks

Pretty birds! You should get some pretty good meals out of all those cockerels. I've heard that BR cockerels taste pretty darn good. I'll be finding out soon myself, though my cockerel is so old (roughly 30 weeks) that I'll have to use the pressure cooker to tenderize him.
