Barred Rocks!!

I don't know if this is a barred rock question but in discussing plymouth rocks in general, in terms of genetics if I put a silver penciled rock over a white or barred bird what would I get? Just curious.

I'm assuming, since you used the term "over," the Silver Penciled is the rooster in this situation. If the White Rock is dominant white, the most of the chicks would be white. The Barred Rock's chicks would be sexlinked, but not look like typical black sexlinks once they feathered in. The males will still have white head spot, and the females will still lack the head spot at hatch. Males would end up looking like female barred Rocks, but with male hackles and saddles. The females will be black with silver penciling instead of the usuall gold.

I have 3 Barred Rock Bantams and they are great! I brought them to the 4-H fair b/c I am in 4-H and it was my first time. I did great! I won Grand Champion Poultry Showmanship, Reserve Champion Rooster, Grand Champion Hen, and First Place Novice... AND IT WAS MY FIRST TIME

I guess female because of the legs, but it would be better to wait for the feathers to come in.

Thank you! I have had 3 BR my favorite hen had a small spot but brighter legs. The cockerel had YELLOW legs from the start but not such a big mark on head.

this is Lola as a baby but about a week old. Brighter legs then I had remembered. How many weeks do you think I should give the check before I post again?

Thank you for your response, that's fascinating. You don't happen to know where I could find any photos of female chicks hatched from a silver penciled over barred pairing do you. I have a beautiful silver pencilled rock cockerel and I'm considering having a little fun just for our laying pen .., until I find a nice bloodline or 2 and get him some unrelated pullets in a year or 2 ;) I would love to see what they would look like I have a hard time picturing them for some reason. I love that someone knew the answer to my question by the way!!

This is Baby, my sweet little BR hen whose personality is unbelievably loveable. As you can
see, she lost an eye as a chick, but she gets around just fine without it. In fact, it adds
to her charm that much more. I sure do adore my Baby!

Petra probably could be classified as a turkey, she's so large. This girl demands that I put
her up on the roost every single night before bed, and now it's become a ritual. What a spoiled
but sweet and amazing chicken. Both hens are strangely fond of biting me for attention; if they're
"talking" to me, and they feel I'm not listening intently enough, I have an ouchy red mark on an arm,
leg, or foot as a consequence. By far one of my favorite breeds of all time, and one I will never be
without.
