Ok so I have a barred rock roo and a few Rhode Island Red pullets, can I make sex links this way? Or does it only work backwards ?

No. You'll make chicks that cannot be sexed at hatch. They'll look like messy Barred Rocks with red and gold leakage.

Oh ok, so the male has to be a solid color ? White that carries the silver gene, or red correct ?

If you put a Red over the Barrred Rocks as hens, you have Black Sex Links.

If you put your Red, if he's a good Red, over a silver female, you could make Red Sex Links.
