our one year old hen Karen was seen today chocking and dispelling bloody mucus, being more independent than usual, and ralling I guess is the term. When she was coughing she ended up dispelling a clot. Her egg production is off too, her last 2 eggs were soft shelled. Her breathing is still labored and she is still lathergic. By doing some research because there are no poultry vets near us....it would lean more likely than not of an unofficial ILT diagnosis. We have never encountered this before. anyone else have any thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance.

Wow, sounds awful. Where would she have gotten it from? I never heard of it. Let me tag some Educators for you, see if one of them can help you.
@coach723 @Eggcessive @azygous @Wyorp Rock
oh my gosh thank you so much. we got her from Rural King..and ill tell you what I've never had this trouble..medically wise. Our family had a flock of 4 chickens and 2 ducks a few years ago and they were champs let me tell you...this flock we have had nothing but health problems with them. they are more spoiled with food (mainly just scrambled eggs and herbs) and more space to free range than our last flock but they are just so health complicated it seems like. we had another pass away earlier this year from I dont even know what. she just fell ill and died later that day.

we use ivermectin to de worm...started that late summer last year and just re started now a few weeks ago but I dont even know what sparked this off for her

So sorry to hear that. May be a good idea to cut out the treats so they get all the possible nutrients they can from their commercial food as it is scientifically balanced to provide all their needs. Any other treats should not exceed 10% of their diet, so about a tablespoon per day per chicken, is what I've been told. It's just so heartbreaking to lose one, I know!

infectious laryngotracheitis....I found that diagnosis based on a Google search and talking with a vet from justanswer

the vet didn't "necessarily" say that it was but didn't rule it out as a possibility...im taking worse case scenario since we have 6 other chickens

Can you get a video of the hen and her actions? Upload video to youtube and provide a link.

What's her crop like?
Any lesions or Canker inside the beak?
Have you added any new birds to your flock within the last 30 days or so?

I would deworm. Use Valbazen at a doseage rate of 0.08ml per pound of weight given orally once, then repeated in 10 days.
You can use Safeguard Liquid Goat dewormer at a dosage rate of 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once daily for 5 days in a row. Ivermectin will not treat Capillary or Gapeworms.

ILT is a Virus, there's no antibiotic treatment. It's highly contagious and a State Reportable disease. It's not very common. I'm surprised a Vet consult didn't ask for info if they thought ILT so they could report it, did they?
