I hatched 4 chicks a week ago. Daddy Barred rock momma Rhode Island Red. Now from what I have read these will be barred like daddy with maybe a little red leaking in. They are starting to get feathers and mostly they are black the only white they have is 3 have on bottoms 1 has gray on bottom and 1 has some white on the neck. Will these have the white headspot if male? Like a barred rock? cause if that is so I have none that have any white on their heads. They all basically look like this. The red tint on the feathers are from the heat lamp.

I may be mistaken but I think if your rooster was Barred Rock he should have thrown all barred babies. Is he perhaps a black sex link instead of Barred Rock?

ETA: I think all barred chicks have a white dot on their head.

This chick dosent appear to be barred. Do you have a pic of the father ? If he is Het barred, half of the chicks from a nonbarred hen wont be barred.

No this is daddy only I wonder if he may have something mixed in him down the line cause he has some green tail feathers and blackwash down the front of his legs. And I only have 2 barred rock roosters no other kind.

Not real sure but is that some black coloring on his legs? If so I don't think he is pure Barred Rock because I don;t think they have that on their legs, at least I've never seen it on Barred Rocks.

ETA: Just wanted to say that chickie is pretty. Looks like a reddish tint under the black.

If he is a black sex link he will not throw true barred babies. Did you buy him from a hatchery or an individual? I've known of individuals trying to pass off their BSL roos as Barred Rock. Then again it could have been an honest mistake. Just got mixed up.
