It might work if you put the tube against the larger bottom and sealed it. I hate working with plumbing so premade waterers are the best thing for me.
ETA - I just noticed your other question about oyster shell. I like to leave a container out for the hens to pick at free choice. It is not necessary but I like to just avoid the chance of soft shells and since I have a mixed age flock and a few roosters I don't feed layer food. I feed the higher protien grower food. Just my preference though. If all you have is hens and you are feeding layer food, it probably will have enough calcium.
