Basics??

It might work if you put the tube against the larger bottom and sealed it. I hate working with plumbing so premade waterers are the best thing for me.

ETA - I just noticed your other question about oyster shell. I like to leave a container out for the hens to pick at free choice. It is not necessary but I like to just avoid the chance of soft shells and since I have a mixed age flock and a few roosters I don't feed layer food. I feed the higher protien grower food. Just my preference though. If all you have is hens and you are feeding layer food, it probably will have enough calcium.

Your tube would have to be airtight to keep water in. Any air leaking from the top would cause the water to just run out. So, drilling a hole to mount to the wall wouldn't work. You could use wire strapping or a clamp to wrap around the outside of the tube and affix that to the wall.

Hmmm that would make it harder to refill too...might have to think about that one for water. Might go to Petsmart and see if they have a flat backed automatic waterer I can rig to be mounted on that door......

Are you really set on mounting the water on the door? For simplicity, I just put my waterers on overturned buckets in the run. Works great.

With the design I'm going for I don't really want to have to crawl into the run to change/add water daily. I was planning on having the food/water mounted to the side door so it would be easy to get to, change, clean, and still covered. The bottom of the first page shows my idea for the tractor. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=546407 I'm worried if I do a 5 gallon bucket in the middle it will get dumped and messy when I move the tractor around.
