I weave my own baskets. I've been doing this for probably 18 years or so. I started out taking a couple classes and then got hooked. I pretty much am self taught. I like to make a variety of baskets especially ones with a purpose. I make one that holds the plastic bags from the stores and a waste basket that you can put the plastic bag in as a liner.

For the first time I am going to be a vendor at our town's "Corn Festival" in August. I'm a little nervous as I've never done anything like this before.

Also, in June, I've been asked to demonstrate basket weaving as they did back in the "Pioneer Days" for a family reunion in my area.

I use black walnuts to make my stain. I do not use any of the commercial stains because I don't think the baskets look as authentic when stained that way.

So, that's what I do in my spare time. LOL

I make a basket here and there. Took several classes and have a lot of reed and other stuff in my basement. I'd love to do more with it, but my time is just spread too thin.

I'm just venturing into basket making. I feel it is an extension of my fiber arts, which include weaving.

I was able to pick up a lot of reeds from my local freecycle and have made a couple of what I call "Nest Builders". Just some funky loose woven baskets filled with odds and ends of my fiber and waste yarn to hang in trees for the birds.

I would love to know of links to good reed suppliers

I've taken a couple of classes at Blue Moon Gardens at Edom, TX. Have made three baskets. Really enjoyed it, but have not pursued getting the materials for more since I'm already into too many crafts (is that possible? LOL) already.

I love baskets.....please post some pics.
