Bathing BEAUTIES contest (hens and roosters both welcome to enter!)

I know the contest is over but I still wanted to share my pictures where somebody would ACTUALLY look at them "

Ok talk to me about swiming chickens. I've never put my girls in water- I'm a chicken newbie. Everytime I go near the hose they run!! Should they take baths?? My tiel takes baths all the time and just try to keep the ducks out of water. I've heard for an egg bound chicken a warm bath helps but we haven't had that issue -knock on wood.

wood&feathers :

Keltara, you should have posted the picture with your daughter in it for the contest - I eagerly followed your earlier thread, and hadn't seen that one. It is ADORABLE!

I actually entered the picture with Madeline in the pool with her chicken, in a local photo contest through our news station. Lots of people from BYC went on line to the station and voted for us and we won first place!!

It was very exciting. I won 2 gift certificates to a local grocery store ($50.00 and $20.00). I also won a 4 person day pass to a water park. BYC members are the best!! You can view the contest thread here.

Just checked out Keltara and their swimming Buffs. How super cool is that!!! I feel so bad about your Lilly too. I lost 17 hens this last winter when they were out free-ranging and two unwanted dogs came through and decimated my little flock. I really don't appreciate people who think that if others live in the country they must want dogs. So of course they drop off their dogs in the country. My dear rooster, Boris, was trying valiantly to fight them both off at the same time when my good neighbor came over with his .22 and sent the dogs packing (maybe even wounded). Anyway, Boris survived with 6 Red Star hens out of my whole flock. I lost 2 White Rocks, Lucy and Ethel, 1 Delaware, Gertie, 1 Auraucana, Mabel, 2 Silver-laced Wyandottes, Isabel and Agatha, 2 Buff Orps, Edna and Agnes, and 2 Black Stars, Mildred and Madge. I felt the same way. I felt so guilty for the longest time. If only I had not let them have the run of the place. It is amazing how attached you can become to these crazy birds. But they are wonderful and we love them and the only side affect I still have is not being able to give names to the new ones yet. My grandson says he wants to try swimming with chickens like your girls. (By the way, you have darling girls too!!) I love this forum and tell everyone with chickens about it!!! Thanks to you all.

Thank God your neighbor was good enough to grab his gun and send those dogs packing! You are right about becoming attached too. It is no different than any other pet. they are great companions. I think you should go ahead and give the new one's names. Or better,...let your grandson name them. If your grandson goes for a swim with them, I would love to know how it turns out! Come back and PM me and let me know how it went.
