Bathing chicken for mites

Lol. Currently I’m bathing my own self! But I will definitely do it next time one crawls on my face! But here is a photo of my Rosalita! I rescued her from the desert 50 miles south of Albuquerque. 2 years ago

For bathing the birds, every over-the-counter (OTC) treatment of head lice contains either pyrethrins (Rid or Triple X) or permethrin (Nix). Both are effective treatment. Both only kill live pests, not the mite or lice eggs eggs. Some pet flea shampoos also contain permethrin. Good luck...

I would spray the birds in question and put poultry dust in the nest boxes. Again, good luck...

Belated I noticed these are your first posts since becoming a member. I hope you are able to save your hen. Mites can kill them. Some mites only feed on the birds at night and other during the day. I wear a headlamp so I have both of my hands free to inspect the birds and go out to my coops after dark when the birds have roosted and look them over good. I also take out some paper towels and rub on and under the roosts with the paper towel and look for streaks on the towels which is a sign of possibly mites. With permethrin there is no egg withdrawal period so the eggs are safe to eat and again good luck...

My Rosalita does not lay eggs. She also sleeps in a wire dog crate in my dining room. I believe she is over 8 years old. I am about to go to Tractor Supply but I have dusted her several times with the poultry powder I got at Atwood’s. I use a power washer in the wire crate every other day so I believe the mites are only ON her (and occasionally on ME!). Each time she’s been bathed, she was mite free until she went back outside! It’s very frustrating! I wish there was something she could ingest to keep them off her! I tried putting garlic juice in her water but that didn’t do anything either! I did post a photo of the mites. I don’t know what kind they are and I really don’t care I just want them gone!
