Just getting in to it after not having any chickens for 30 years. Any recommendations? Anybody follow local ordinances, or are you just doing your own thing?

Doing your own thing can wind up sad if some grump finds out and turns you in. I've heard of a few and it's just pathetic when someone's lived fine owning chickens for years, then had to get rid of them.
