Bator off all night......$#%*&!! UPDATE..Hygrometor..

I had some orps and cochins hatch this week, that went down to 68 once and in the 70s twice. With power outages, and the cat jumping around a knocking the plug out and all but one of the 12 orps hatched.. and only 3 of the cochins have hatched. Those LFs are amazingly vigilant.

Best of luck.

lockdown, took out the turner, checked the high and low temps...WHY does the stupid hygrometor show I had a high of 106? stupid thing! I check it numerous times a day and not once, ever!! does that thing show anything but 99.5. but check the high and low temps and it shows 106! when was it 106? gremlin in there screwing with things when I am asleep??? WTH?? and while I am on a rant...thermometer in the brooder, lay it flat and its over 120, prop it up and its in the 80's...same spot...so which is it??? argh! white light bulb 100w. cant anything just be simple and accurate?

get rid of the headacke, chiuck the hygrometer, and the thermometer in the brooder.

been hatching for 6+ yrs no hygrometer except for a reptile one for those visiting, no problems. as for the brooder temp your chicks will tell you the right temp. if they are pepping loudly and grouped under the heat to cold, if they are staying away for the heat and peeping to hot, if they are all over the place and talking, pecking and playing just right.

this is what happened to me a few week ago, https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=462892 it might help

Read your post and thanks for the info. I have ordered the Brinsea Oct 20 Adv EX. It comes with the humidiy controller and temp control. After reading your post I really questioned whether I should have done that or just gotten the simpler one. I think for my piece of mind I will like the Adv EX because if something did happen to all the eggs I would blame myself and wonder what I did wrong. I am just that way. Thanks for all the great info though. Once my bator gets here this will be my first hatch and I am very nervous but I will try to relax!!!!!

its always rock steady when I check it, but when was it 106? really? lol I have done ok, dont worry to much as long as temp and humidity are steady...just bugs me that it says that when I wasnt looking!
