Battery Hens?

So I e-mailed the Battery Hen Welfare Trust, and I'm waiting for a response...

I'll post as soon as they get back to me.

I hope you get somewhere with this. I adopted some ex-batts a few months ago and they have given me nothing but joy since (as well as lots of eggs!). They are so friendly and I am sure they are grateful for the nice new life they have now. It will be a worthwhile experience if you can find some to take on. Here is the link to a thread I started when I got mine so you can see their original condition and progress. Good luck! https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=150705

Well, atleast he didn't send them to slaughter.

I'm still looking into egg farms here in Hawaii, I know we don't have one on maui. At least I'm pretty sure... so if I did rescue any It would be an airplane ride away.

I'd like to eventually set up nationwide website in America maybe like BHWT...

Any ideas? How would one go about starting this?

It seems to me that BYC is the perfect place to begin an American organization dedicated to rehoming battery hens.

babyspice, why don't you ask Lisa Tate at Battery Hen Welfare Trust if she would give you some advice on how to start one?

You could post info here and get volunteers to begin approaching commercial farmers with the idea and developing advertising strategies for adoption.

What an opportunity to really make a difference in the world.

ALSO, I'm kind of a newbie here with a lot of ambition, so I don't know where to go with this, but maybe BYC could be the foundation adoption website... I mean there are about a zillion members and its the first thing to come up when you google anything about chickens.

Any ideas on who I can contact? A moderator, perhaps?

This website has everything else one could ever need, but I feel if there's an adoption section for battery hens, it would be TOTALLY COMPLETE!!!

It'd be perfect!
