Battling Cocci...

Andora, you might also double check the concentration of your Corid on the label. Is it 9.6%? This is very important, as the dosage for 9.6% will be different than if it's 11 or 12-something.

lismrog's link is great for the 9.6%.

Good luck!

[If you are finding you have recurrent cocci problems, you might want to consider going speckledhen's route and reinforcing their little digestive systems with milk products and probiotics instead of staying on Corid for a long time. I have read studies suggesting complications from vitamin deficiencies (esp. B1) can result when young chicks are kept on this for extended periods. But I am no vet, LOL! I don't even play one on television.

The sickest one is still puffed up looking, but I just checked her crop and it had some food in it!! She wouldn't eat all day yesterday or this morning, but I've been putting 1.8 mL of ACV/Corid water in her mouth every couple hours for the past two days. I hope she's getting better! (I used a higher concentration today, by the way.)

When do you put powdered milk into their feed? Is that to heal after they are acting normal again? Or should I do it now? We've got some organic powdered milk in the cabinet that I need to use up, haha.

Most suggest doing it after treatment, but I do it during since I consider it a secondary treatment. Last time, I used raw goat's milk with their crumbles mixed in once a day. I had better success this latest outbreak than last year, when I was battling cocci for what seemed to be a couple of months with one batch of youngsters.

try powdered milk (I think goats milk works best) with the corrid that might help but sometimes the worst one will die no matter what. But trust me the powdered milk in their feed helps a lot. been there many times

If they are pooping that much blood they are bound to be in pain! If the milk products are soothing, I'll go ahead and add it in now. Thanks.
