Jeremy I was thinking of doing this too, because I wanted more Lavs. I have a black roo that I got from sunnydawn. Clyde is beautiful but he's also my most dominant roo. He's definately not a people lover and he's really rough still with the hens. They actually fight him off and I have to pull him. When the weather clears I'll start carrying him around during the day to see if he'll shape up, it helped this summer, but I just haven't had the time to keep working with him for a couple of months. I think more hens might also help. We'll see.

I think as far as Lavs I'd like to stick with pips&peeps. I get really beat up egg shipments, but I got 4 to hatch, one didn't make it passed a couple of days and one isn't lav, but I hope it's a pullet cause I love this chick! I need to post some new picks of them. My little lavs are so cute, fat and lovable. I'm really happy with them. I also figure if these hatched, fertility with her birds must be awesome.

Now if he had blues??? I might be in. I would love to have more of them.

Laurieks, I received your PM, are you in for chicks then?

wolftracks, are you breeding Lavs with your black roo? Jean's birds are great, but you'll want some genetic diversity in your flock, especially if you plan on continuing with Lavs. They tend to have a feather problem called "fretting" that makes the feathers appear frayed or matted. Outcrossing to blacks, or adding different Lav blood is a common way to help prevent this condition. That said, you should at least get 1 or 2 chicks to help with your flock! Plus we'll all be getting chicks, not eggs, so we won't have to worry about smashed eggs due to the P.O.

The more folks who buy in, the cheaper the order becomes for everyone!

So, I'm investigating the Sunnyvale Municipal Codes for animals.
Chickens are mentioned in two places:

6.16.090. Animals near residences.
It is unlawful for any person to pen, enclose, or otherwise confine, any chicken, duck, pigeon, or any other bird or fowl, within twenty-five feet of an inhabited residence without the written consent of the occupant of such residence. It is unlawful for any person to stake, tie, or otherwise confine, any animal, except a dog, within two hundred feet of an inhabited residence, without the written consent of the occupant of such residence. (Ord. 1628-71 § 2 (part): prior code § 5-1.409).

6.16.015. Nuisances by animals.

(b) It is unlawful for any person to keep any rabbits, chickens, pigeons, hogs or pigs or goats, or cows or any animal or any fowl or birds in any pen, building, yard or enclosure within the city, in such a manner that the same becomes or is a nuisance.

Does this mean I can keep Marilyn? Anyone have an educated opinion?

It doesn't mention anything about roosters...

I would talk to your neighbors and make sure they wouldn't mind having a rooster around, if not, go ahead and keep him!

Yes I'll probably be using the black roo also.

Will this order be sexed or straight run? I'm thinking that's the only way he does this. When the others ordered last year I watched that thread like crazy and there ended up being a lot of roos. I need pullets. And for day olds the sooner the better on getting them here. I have almost 7 month old AMs that I doubt even know what an egg looks like. Just hoping that as late starters they will lay for longer.

But yeah I would be in for maybe 3 or 5 for now. I had wanted to go 10, but I want to also add more blues and need lots of room for my FBCMs. Those big non laying monsters.

Yes straight run only, it's a risk, but these bird are supposed to be very good quality.

I want 6, 3 buffs and 3 silvers. Can I start making a list? Can I put your name on it? How many of each color do you want?

Currently:
jeremy- 3 buffs and 3 silvers

I'd still rather re-home him if someone wants him to make pretty babies with. But, if no one wants him, we might end up keeping him and see what happens... DH was nearly in tears today over the thought of "losing our Marilyn"! (I know one neighbor is fine - she LOVEs chickens.) I just have to check with the other neighbor. Maybe we should call him Merlin instead.

I don't remember seeing any LF blues. Did I miss them?

If they're there I' can do 5 of those and 5 of the Lavs.

That sound alright?
