Bay Area BYCers!

ChookHappy, go take a look at the Imported English Orpington thread, I'm breeding birds like the ones pictured there.

They are bigger and fluffier then LF Cochins, if you can believe it.

The Orpingtons are better than Cochins, IMO.

Their feet don't become caked with mud and mess in the rainy/winter season. That and Orpingtons are a better laying breed, combine that fact with that they will go broody just as often as a Cochin and Orps are just better birds.

Plus, I just love love love Orps!

I do have to admit that even though my young cochins are very personable due to hand raising or maybe they're just like that, the buff orp we got with our first generation flock is the kindest bird out of the bunch. She will just sit there on my hand or shoulder forever! She is too sweet. I'll take a look at that thread and might just be persuaded. Man I need to expand my backyard...

I am trying sooooooo hard not to pick a favorite breed. I think I need to have experience keeping several more breeds--as many as possible--before I can pick a favorite! hehehe... doesn't that sound like just a wonderful plan?? ?There are things I love about each of my girls, and they are all different breeds except I have two EE's. BTW... Jeremy, about the minorca... been having a little trouble making it to the bay area on the weekends with the weather-- can you bring her to the Stockton show & I'll just meet up with you there, or do you need to get rid of her before that?

I love the mellow cochins, but my RIR is so inquisitive and such a great lead hen! But now i have a chance to fall in love with my new BCM "nEw yEAR" babies!
Ok, so all five are out, but not sure about #5's strength--it was just and I mean just out of the shell and Mama was having a fit... Anyway, here are some today photos!

Jeepers, they are cute!

The new girls are so, so sweet. They're getting acquainted with their temporary home now, I set up a large dog kennel where they will live for the next two weeks in quarantine. I couldn't resist taking a few quick pics though.

First is Judy, she's the lighter of the two girls, her color is a creamy Wheaten throughout.

Saffron is the darker pullet, she's a bit more gingery in her hackles, but still is very nice overall.

To make a good day even better, one of the girls left me a present in their kennel! This picture was taken outside without flash to try and capture the true color off the egg.
