I wish I could take one of your boys... but I don't have any more room! I (luckily) hatched all 3 of the little boys I need for my future breeding programs. A Heritage Delaware, a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana and a Lavender Orpington. I'll have hatching eggs available next spring hopefully!

Do you breed Cochins? Do you have any blues? I've looked EVERYWHERE with no luck, I'd really love to add a blue pullet/hen to my flock.

aren't you getting the blues from S&C? And that's my baby lav....!

I keep trying to get in touch with them, but they aren't responding hardly at all. I got 1 email back that said yes, they have the standard Blue Cochins and that they can ship a minimum of 10. Which means I'll have to rehome at least 8! Or 9, I'm not sure if I want more than 1... So I'm still looking around, who knows, maybe this is the cosmos telling me I DON'T need any more chickens. L0L!

Cheryl did hatch my little Lav Orp boy, he's quite a looker! It's so cute, he now perches on the side of the brooder with the other Dels, I feel like he's finally been accepted by them all.

Don't NEED more chickens??? that's funny for us addicts! Yep well I'm in the same mode. Don't need or really want anymore. At least for this week!!

Just installed automatic doors on the two coops last night. This morning was the first morning I didin't get up at 5:30 and trudge down to the coops to let everyone out! Very cool!

Sorry no blues... but there's a guy on Craigslist that I picked these babies up from... he called me the day they hatched and I slipped them under my broody hen. It's so sweet. No biggie about the roos, I can always take them back up to the breeder... he was happy to take them back.

I just wanted to offer. When I drop them off I'll look around for blue cochins, I doubt it. They guy seems to love the buff cochins....

By the way. What a cool idea to have an automatic door!!!!

Darn! I think I might have found a feed store that's willing to do a small order of hatchery stock blues, but I really wanted some nice quality ones. I guess we'll see. Who's the breeder you got yours from? He might be able to refer me to someone else he knows.

An automatic door would be nice, that way I could actually sleep in on the weekends!

Im not exactly Bay area. More in the valley. Merced to be specific. Anyone out there close to Merced? I feel like I may be the ONLY backyard chookie-rookie here.

I'm in the East Bay, but there are many on here who are a little further out. Also, check out the Northern California thread. Most of us respond to all of the threads, but the more you post, the more you'll meet people.

Glad you found us!

Another Oakland-er here! Out in the vast urban-ness that is East Oakland- Holla! My neighbors think I'm crazy with my chickens in the dining room in their brooder box. I started out with four babies (2 Barred Rocks, a red sex-link and a RIR) from BioFuel Oasis. It seems that one of the BR's is most likely a roo, so of course I needed to go out to Alamo feed to pet the babies there and see if I could find a replacement. Came home with a pretty little Welsummer and a Brabanter- which I know nothing about. She's growing a crazy mohawk and is cute as a button. I need to get on the stick and finish their coop/run area as the bigger kids are starting to spend a lot of time outside during the day and will be ready to be out permanently in the next couple of weeks.
It seems like everywhere I turn these days I'm finding more and more chicken folk here in Oakland. Does anyone know of any local yahoo goups that have started up? I know Alameda has one, but haven't seen anything for Oakland/Berkeley. I'd like to start something up so we can work out chicken-sitting situations etc. Any interest?
