lol I'm looking for the info on the next sale at Scotts Valley feed.... and found this.... I want King Feed, and they tell me Brentwood Feed is closest, but looking at the google map Scotts Valley looks like a straight shot...a bit longer but if the sale is this weekend it'd be worth it. Opinions???

Hi Bay Area BYCers!

Just found this thread and am excited to know that I have chicken neighbors. I'm a newbie with three 6-week olds that I've had since they were 2 days old. They will be leaving the brooder in the next week.

I don't think it's been mentioned in this thread, but Alpha Pet Supply on San Pablo, between Marin and Solano, sells feed. It's in the same shopping center as Codornices Veterinary Hospital. They sell Organic Pride Layer Pellets for $28.99 and Non-organic Homegrown layer pellets for $16.99. Both are 50lb. bags. They also sell 5lb bags of organic chick starter for 5 bucks. I have no idea if these prices are good or not since I'm still on starter. There's also a very small selection of feeders and waterers.

Hi Jeremy,

I have an EE (Yolanda), RIR (Saffron) and Delaware (Bridget), and I got them from Concord Feed. They're so much fun, and so sweet. The most affectionate one, Saffron, I fear may be a boy. I'm not sure what I'll do if that's the case because I'm already so attached to them.

Anyone looking for Cochin roosters. I have three. One is silverlaced, one is black and the last is a partridge color. Sadly they are so beautiful, and if no one wants them I can always return them to the breeder, but they're so sweet and beautiful I'd love to see them go to a good home. I work at an airport so I could find someone to fly them up to Tahoe or Sacramento very easily. So if you're far away from Livermore they could be delivered to the nearest small airfield.

I'm from the Bay Area and actually grew up in the Rockridge area. Graduated from Oakland Tech and CCAC.

I know you can have unlimited chickens in Oakland, but no roosters. Can you keep them in your area?

Nope, but if I lived a mile away I could.... silly huh.

I wish I could keep em... they're absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The black one was just so sweet tonight.... since their mama abandoned them I keep them in a box at night in the house where it's warmer and the black rooster with very iridescent feathers wouldn't let me pick him up until just before dark and then at the last second he jumped into my hand and I put him under my chin and he stuck his head out so long and deeply into the collar on my shirt... it was so sweet! I love these birds like they're my dog. That's why I'd rather not just take them back to the breeder... he'll probably just chop them up.

Do you breed Cochins? Do you have any blues? I've looked EVERYWHERE with no luck, I'd really love to add a blue pullet/hen to my flock.
