Bay Area BYCers!

Have you tried contacting Harris5, Luke? I had contacted her about some clean shanked Wheaten Marans for an Olive Egger project, she actually said she had a pair and a couple of pullets that had clean legs. You should give her a PM.

By breeding my Blue Wheaten Ameraucana rooster to the (potential) Splash Marans pullet. The resulting chicks would be 50% blue and 50% splash colored, most likely with red or gold leakage in the males.

I'm trying to collect a couple different dark egg laying pullets of different breeds/color varieties this year to breed with my Ameraucana in order to produce as many different OE colors as possible. A lot of them will be blue, or have the blue color incorporated into their plumage somehow.

Ha!! You are stealing my idea... or "great minds think alike"! Except I plan to keep one of my Splash marans roosters and breed the hens for splash and booted olive eggers! That's where the cochins come in...

Well it sounds like we should start a joint project Dawn! We both will have Ameraucanas by March, plus I'm getting a boat load of Olive Egger hatching eggs this season. I'll be getting Black OE hatching eggs from Wynette, Barred (with the possibility of Blue Barred) Olive Eggers from Patty Carson lines and Blue/Black Olive Eggers from Monique Wagner (ruth on BYC), since you're keeping a Splash Marans roo you could potentially put some already olive laying hens with him to produce an even deeper, richer egg laying Olive Egger.

Whaddya say?

Deal! I would love to create a Mille Fleur OE, too! Aren't genetics interesting?? But you are way ahead of me, I think. I will have the BCM girl, Splash Marans girls and one roo, I hope, and my blue cochins to breed back to for the boots...

Let's see how "Joe" turns out...

Great minds do think alike! I would LOVE a Mille Fleur Olive Egger, or a Mille Fleur anything really. It's one of my favorite patterns. My dream is actually LF Diamond Jubilee Orpingtons, I would sell my entire flock for a pair.

Back to Olive Eggers though, I spoke recently with a woman who is trying to create/breed Mille Fleur Penedesenca, a dark egg laying breed. She's still a couple of years out from having birds that breed true but just as soon as she has eggs, even if they still are in the "project" phase I told her I would gladly take whatever she has available!

Ooh, dreaming of chickens takes up entirely too much of my time...

We are so crazy, I know! I've just had the second in a series of "chicken chat" dinners with Healdsburg folks this week. Fun! Good to know i am not alone, also weird to think i am not alone and there are others with this disease...

One of the guys on the Mille Fleur Bantam Cochin thread walked me though how I might make a LF sized bird. So fascinating! Let me know if you want to give me something to breed back to the Splash roo, presuming he'll start being active in another...oh say, 4-5 months...! This is why i need some Speckled Sussex chicks!

Splash Marans 1 week. Dolly being shy at the back...

Ha! I am already behind from having 3/4 BCM boys...! If I get 4/5 splash pullets, Jeremy gets Dolly (the one with big hair) and the other...?

We'll just have to survive the suspense!
