Bay Area BYCers!

I just got done with candling day 2.

1 Blue Wheaten Ameraucana egg is showing major growth, the other wasn't as much but I left it in anyway. I removed the other Polish X Ameraucana egg as it was clear, too.

I've never seen Claude mount my Polish hen so I'm not surprised, I set her eggs mostly out of wishful thinking. The last egg was a Delaware X Ameraucana that I threw in for fun, it was also removed because it was clear. Again, I'm not too surprised, my Del hens are bullies and Claude has to sneak up on them to mate those girls.

So, I'm hoping that I will have at least 3 viables going into lockdown in 10 more days!

I'll carry around and huggle (hug + cuddle

) a 14 lb Orpington rooster but a tiny quail just gives me the heeby jeebies. I think it's their little squinty eyes.

Withhold everything but olive oil and water. Yogurt will give her nourishment but it won't help the crop empty.

I have a large syringe and a tube that goes right into the crop if you want to borrow it

If she is lethargic, not eating AND the crop is rock hard, then it could be. The syringe thing is surprisingly easy,

I don't know of a berkeley avian vet, but my vet in lafayette, has 3 avian vets, one is a good friend and I could call her to see if she can take you. We are only 15 minutes from berkeley.

My guess is that you're right. Her crop is full yet she is not pooping. I just tried to syringe-feed her some olive oil. I only managed to get a couple drops in.

Cheryl, thank you. Could you see if your friend can take me either today or tomorrow? What's her name?
