Thanks for the concern. I hope she's not sick ... eeek if she is ....

So far, she's/Esperanaza's been sitting in the hay barn all day. Last night my husband took her out and put her in with the others in the coop. I'm getting some BCM eggs tomorrow for her.

Went to Cheryl's and got her two orps .. they are A LOT smaller than the first two, 50% English Orps ! Will send you some photos!

They are NORMAL size compared to SUPERSIZED english orps...!!!

I have a hatch going on now, but not one pip out of my BCMs. I'm getting a little upset, since my Davis birds seem to die in shell. I hope they come through this time. I have one chick out and 3 more pipping, but that's it and these are EEs and mixes.

I checked on Juliet a few minutes ago and I had thought she was sitting on 9 eggs. Nope, now I see 10 and reason only now there are at least 10 is because one is a BCM! It must have been under the others or too dark last time I checked. It's one of my Davis girl eggs, so we'll see if she does any better. If she does I hope she goes broody again, cause I'm stickin those suckers under her next time.

Cheryl I answered your post in the Easter hatch thread.

I turn it on and the screeen is black. Does anyone know what I can do to fix it or do I need to get it fixed?

It's just a sort of cheapie from Metro, but Bill bought it like 2 months before he died so I'd have one.

Daphne, it sounds like you've caught the Orpington bug...

All you need now is a Splash or two.

Hi Daphne,
Both my blue cochins were broody, broody, broody all Fall, so I finally gave in! The first hatched out 4 BCM on New Year's Day, and I still have the one pullet of the bunch. The other cochin hatched out the Splash Marans who were 10 weeks old last Friday. Both first-time mamas, who are normally my mellow gals, were ferocious mamahens the first three weeks, then gradually hormones calmed a bit and they got back to their normal selves. Each started back laying when their chicks were about 8-9 weeks old.

I ended up giving each bird a space of her own, and had to lock them in the space for a few days until they were truly settled on the nest. I lost 4 of the Splash Marans eggs by not doing that right off with the second broody--too many of the other hens thinking maybe they'd like to use the space as well! ARGH!!! Silly birds...

If broody #2 hasn't been broody long enough, taking the eggs from #1 wont give her long enough to set on them. And apparently the developing chicks "hear" mama and she them the last 3-4 days, so they have a kind of pre-bonding going on which you are pretty close to... Better to give broody #2 a few eggs of her own, I'm thinking. If the'd been closer to being broody at the same time, and you'd only had eggs under #1 a few days, then I would go for it, but not at this point 14 days later...

Also, have you "tested" to make sure #2 is really ready? I would put her in a space, give her a few fake eggs, make sure after 3 days that she is mostly just sitting on them, then give the real thing. I waste a few days, but haven't had trouble with the cochins as it seems to take a few days from when they start showing broody signs to toally locking down on the eggs. With the first hen, I had to toss her off the nest (with work gloves on!!) after a week when I realized the sparrows were eating her food and she actually hadn't moved in all that time! AFter three days of moving her off in the morning when I feed, she got the hang of it and would pop off for about two minutes when I walked in, gobble food as fast as she could, drink water, make a GINORMOUS poo, then hop right back on! 120 seconds, flat!

Good luck,

Dawn

Kim,
If you have a Metro phone store close to you, bring it in to see what they can do with the phone. Or, if your local Radio Shack or COSTCO or Wal-Mart has the Metro phone sales, bring it there and see if there is a knowledgeable person who can figure it out. Or, ask your kids - they know more than most of us - I had to ask my students how to use the camera phone in the very beginning!

Thanks, Dawn ... I already wrote to you by email ..

Jeremy,
IF I had the space, I would probably add quite a few more ... but, I'm limited, not as fortunate as you and your famous creek adventures!

Yeah I'm thinking kids, but I'm going over their heads and going to go straight to the grandkids. LOL

It was working fine, but I was trying to get some pics of my Lionheads and all I got was a black screen. I had just used it yesterday.

I'll get it figured out. Too bad none of them are very close, but if we get together for Easter, someone is fixing Grandma's phone!

BTW I'm getting more Lionheads in the next 2 weeks.

I'm so hooked on these rabbits. I should have some babies here in the next month or two and I can't wait.
