Oh well, at least I get to enjoy the Bay area chat here.
I don't know what their prices are like but the 2 feed stores closest to you are...

Deans Animal Feed Inc · (650) 363-1425
2690 Middlefield Rd Ste A · Redwood City

Pet Food Depot · (650) 852-1277
3127 El Camino Real · Palo Alto (yes they are a pet store and they don't sell chicks but they do have feed and can order what ever else you might want)

Let us know which one works best. Or maybe if you find a different one that works well. I don't think you'll find feed anywhere near the price you're paying there though. Even in Reno I'm paying $3 more for a 50 lb bag than you are there in Billings. I've never seen layer at the Walmarts here in Reno. Maybe I should head to the ones on the edge of town and see if they carry it. Although I do love my local small feed store and enjoy my visits there a lot.

My pullets that hatched in April are finally starting to lay pretty consistently, here's a sample of the eggs I collected today.

Beautiful eggs, Jeremy! What kind of chook laid that salmon-pinkish-brownish spotted egg? We got our birds on May 29th, and they were supposedly 3 months old; but we later found out that they were only 6 weeks, except for the EE, Big Bertha, who was 10 weeks. Right now, they have been here for 16 weeks which makes most of my flock 22 weeks & Bertha is 26 weeks. The only one laying eggs is the leghorn, and her first egg poops dropped out last Monday at 21 weeks; but since then, she has laid us 6 beautiful white pullet eggs in 7 days! Very consistent. We had to close the garage door.... day before yesterday, she went in the garage & laid her egg! Luckily I was out in the yard when she came out of the garage and made her "I laid it!" announcement, so it was very easy to find once I followed back into the area from whence I saw her emerge.

It cracks me up how they make allllll that noise before laying their egg, then come out of the henhouse with a different tone to their squawk and announce that "the egg has been laid"!
