So today is clean up day...pray for no rain. With the TV show coming on Tuesday I got to spit-shine everything! Next weekend I'm going to start the plans to section off parts of the big coops for my new breeding program...I know many of you are already boredd hearing me go on & on about it!!
In an small effort to keep my flock under control I'm doing a flock reduction! Val already picked up 4 of my great hen yesterday! woohoo so nice to know they are going to a great home.
Here's what I've got

1 Wheaten Maran-I hatched
1 LAVENDER orpington - from Greenfire farms
1 Silver/Light sussex split - from Greenfire farms
5 1/2 MONTHS OLD-$25
Gertrude Australorp
1 1/4 YEARS OLD-$25 each
Beatrice - Gold Laced Wyandotte
Blanche - Rhode Island Red
Additionally completely OFF TOPIC, I have a vacancy at my in-law unit above the garage, it's awesome if anyone knows of someone looking for a new place, I would be so grateful!
Thanks Steff! and good morning - Rain already....I'm not winterized, just put the gutters up again yesterday and need to cover the hoop run with a tarp, any ideas how to deal with the giant redwoods coming out of the coop!
I'm thinking of cutting a slit and hole putting it around the redwoods securing it with some sort of collar....argh
and my lawn HAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAH is a disaster, between the chickens, dogs and our NEW PET GOPHER!
pretty sure you could use recycle bits of tires to ring the tree and secure the netting. it wouldn't be strong enough to secure hardware cloth, but it would work for deer netting.
I've been 'lurking' on BYC for over a year and have learned a lot from everyone here. I've never posted, but now I need some advice. I live in Walnut Creek, CA. We have 3 hens (that's the limit in the city). We have one neighbor who has been against our chickens for most of the 1.5 years we've had them. She has left harrassing messages in our voice mail. We have been inspected no less than 3 times by code enforcement. They have declared we are completely within code and they are unable to detect undesirable odors. Now, we have been told she has been granted a public hearing because she cites 'health issues' caused by our chickens. I have spoken with the code enforcement person, who encouraged me to prepare a defense to her complaints. My question is: does anyone have any experience with this type of thing? Any thoughts on what we should do?
