Bay Area BYCers!

that's a tough one. once people are mad at you, they don't want to get along. they just want their way.

are you prohibited from talking to her about it because of the hearing? if not, I would talk with her, asking her what you could do to address her concerns, short of getting rid of the chickens, since you are within the law. did you get along with her before you got chickens?

for me, I always keep the dialogue going with my neighbors, give gifts of eggs whenever possible, and try to anticipate what would bother them, and fix it before they complain. it has worked well.

Good morning Stephanie!

Good luck with your neighbor ajm.

If you've been inspected a few times already, and were always in compliance, take those reprts with you to the hearing, just because there is a hearing, does not mena you will have to get rid of your chickens, neighbor may be told to leave you alone!

Morning, Boo!

it's always hard when neighbors don't get along. I hope she can find a way to bring the neighbor into the pro-chicken family. since she is completely compliant with the law, and has been inspected, the hearing won't do much except confirm this to the neighbor (and make everyone feel bad.

Thanks to you both for your positive thoughts.

Unfortunately, Steffanie, I'm certain there is nothing anyone can do about this neighbor. She has a reputation for harrassing other neighbors and calling the city about petty things. This is the first time she has gone so far as to demand a hearing.
I really hope you're right, Boo. The people presiding over the hearing are the ones who inspected us and wrote the reports! It's such a terrible waste of resources, time and money.

Fun Clio are you buying some of Jeremy's pretty birds?

Hi Cheryl,

I'm just buying (hoping to buy) some of Jeremy's chickens' eggs .. at my Berkeley home, the neighbors are having a block party on Saturday, and I thought I would bring some eggs as part of the "potluck" contribution - people can have them for breakfast the next morning ... also some for my extended family living there, who I will be bringing four chickens over soon!

Your party had perfect timing

- I don't think we've had good weekend weather since we've been at your home. Have you had your t-shirt designs printed on a different neckline yet?

Would love to get a couple of your chicks, but will wait until Spring

.. my husband thinks we're overcrowded at 12 right now.

Did you get a chance to try the creamed honey yet?

Hope the hearing outcome will be positive for you .. bring the inspection and report documentations with you.

Like I told a few of you at Cheryl's, my neighbor came over a month before we got our chickens, and complained about a fly problem in their bedroom (2 flies!) and that she heard we were getting chickens and to re-consider not getting them because of future flies. All I've said over and over to her that day was, "If there is a health problem, I will take care of it." She's never brought it up since, they know we have chickens, and the family behind me now has chickens also. Some people are never happy with what they have, never thinking that it could be lots worse

So Clio I see your posting at 1:30am now! Cool about the eggs, I bet his a gorgeous!

I'm putting an order in for my tees today - you had wanted a v-type shape correct?

Honey sadly hasn't touched my lips

Daphne, I'm happy to be able to give you some fresh eggs for your friends in Berkeley.

I've sold dozens to folks that I know, in Oakland and in Berkeley too and they are always a huge hit. People literally have called me when they're eating breakfast to say how delicious the eggs are!

They then go on to comment on how different store bought eggs and eggs from home taste.

Honestly I do taste the difference. Fresh eggs have a richer, creamier yolk. They're definitely a hit! I'm sure you're friends will love your contribution.

Also... what's this I keep hearing about creamed honey? How on earth did I miss that at the party? I LOVE honey! We've considered keeping a beehive at our house, but I haven't thoroughly educated myself on it yet so we're nowhere near ready. Just a whimsical thought. I think it would be very cool though.
