Bay Area BYCers!

I wanted to tell everyone who made it out today that I had such a great time at the Heirloom Expo!

It was nice to visit again with old friends and to meet new faces. This was my first year going to the Expo and I really enjoyed the show. My first chicken show experience was sorta what I had imagined, there were less birds entered than I expected but there were some very nice ones there. I really, really liked the White Ameraucana trio that was there, I believe the hens got Best of Breed and Reserve Breed, they were nice. There was a Blue Wheaten cock there too, it made me miss my Claude. Karen, give him a hug for me.

I have to say this show did calm some of my fears about exhibiting poultry but I still don't know if I'm ready to take that leap. My birds are comfortable at home, honestly I don't know how well my Orps would fit into the show cages.

There were also ducks that were being shown and it made me that much more excited to get my ducklings! The ducks were awesome!

I brought home two different scented geraniums that I did not have, Apple Cider which has a spicy-apple blossom scent and "Lady Plymouth" a very pretty variegated plant that smells like mint and rose.

Anyways, I hope everyone else had a great time too. Debi mentioned as we were leaving that it's about that time that we need to start planning the Bay Area Regional meet up. We did have the party last year in October, I'm going to start looking into venues that can host the party this year, again trying to keep a centrally located spot in mind for those who might be coming from a distance.

We had a great time too Jeremy. Itisso nice putting names to faces that you have been reading for so long.

I found theExpo very interesting but exhausting. I just really don't get around as well as I used too but loved it.
Do you see Bridgett Little in the Poultry barn???? The white Ameraucanas are her's. Kate & I are going out to her place soon. Kate has wanted the White Ameraucanas for a long time & we were waiting for Bridgett to get back from her Colorado trip. She has my other Black Minorca pullets ready for me too. It will be a fun outing. I will come home drooling......LOL
I was disappointed that there were not more chicken entries but as Lanae Cash said if I didn't bring any I can't complain. She was there with her Araucanas & she lives in Willits.
Kate bought a wonderful apple tree & we got to see & taste alot of goodies at the demos. There was a family owned cheesemaking booth there with some very nice cheeses & I brought home some salted dark chocolate caramels....... He loves dark chocolates.
All in all it was a long drive & an exhausting day but sooooooooo worth it!!!!!!

jtaylormade congrats on your new babies and liked the pics of your birds. Your daughter looks excited to have those chicks. What's cuter? A fuzzy chick or a kid with a smile and sparkles in their eyes? Sorry I have to say the kid. LOL

Wish I could have seen all the great stuff at the show. Great that you all had such a good time.

OK I think I have 2 more FBCMs going broody. Usually I'd be pulling my hair out, but ya know, if they can get those eggs to hatch and I can't then I say great! Problem with one is she squeezed out my Game. The Games are really on it when it comes to hatching out eggs, where the Marans tend to crush the eggs. Gonna have to wait though to move them.

I thought I was feeling better and painted a cage all day, then a traumatic evening here and today I'm in move pain than I was 2 days ago.

thanks Wolftracks, and I will have to agree its the kids with the sparkle that win me over every time...She is so excited - after all shes been deprived of chicks in the living room brooder for at least 12 days....

Good luck with your broodies, I hope you get some healthy hatches from them!

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain

Karen, I knew I recognized Bridget's birds! I didn't see her at the show but I actually just talked with her via email and the White Ameraucanas that were there were indeed hers, as well as some Sussex and a few Penes and a couple other things I think. I'm going to take a trip down to her place soon and pick up some pullets. I want some Sumatra if she has them available, probably some of those White Ameraucanas, I'll probably look at her Wheaten stock as well. I'm going to only bring enough cash to get "what I need"... that way I'm not like a kid in a candy store when I visit!

I did get to meet Lanae and drool over her Araucanas, I so wanted to take some of those chicks home but I was given the eye and ended up walking away empty handed.

Oh well, there's always next spring!

Lanae was very sweet and seemed very passionate about the breed.

I'm glad you enjoyed the show, it's time to start planning the Bay Area meet up now!
