Morning Walt, so because of variety I'm breeding do you think chances are they will be small - unfortunately the two breeders that I got them from can't tell me what's in them!

I think they will be on the small side, but you can make them larger. I don't know when they were hatched, but late hatched birds tend to be small and early hatch birds will usually be larger. Hatch LF early and bantams late. Add size/weight to what you select for in breeding and eventually you will have larger birds.

Yeah that's right, they were hatched late. in mid-april

hmmm what should I add to get size up without completely messing up the color - maybe a big american brown, know anyone that has one! I'll email you so we don't bore everyone else!

This was my today...I somehow lost most oh my braincells today, who knows where they went. I need a better system, I'm so lucky that the word about the brahmas is getting out, really fun to see so many people excited about them. I love being able to offer this breed at prices that people can afford. So today was filled with me trying to juggle orders and I completely forgot Maureen-Jtaylormade was coming to pic up the two chicks. Holy Moly, when she called to say she was running late, I'm like...oh really what, who, when I'm nutz today can't remember anything. Anyway she arrived, checked out my flock and got her two buff-laced and I threw a little gold-laced brahma in the box for her troubles. OH and she left me with the most coveted honey can't wait to drizzle over yogurt, or probably more like it ice cream! We then went over to the ranch so she could she the buff laced all grown up!(well this is the adventure part) We left the house and then, Maureen, Maureen....where are you...nowhere to be found. Ha ha I love people that are as directionally challenged as myself! I was probably speeding and the fact that I lost my brain cells today, didn't do a very good job of keeping track of her. Then of course she is trying to call me , which is fine, except i left my cell phone at home - mind you the ranch is only 5 minutes from my house. I say to myself, that stinks I really wanted her to see the flock, but go inside and start to clean up, feed water and get eggs (it's pitiful right now) Jake my roo is typically text book gorgeous, but it's very embarrassing now for him as he only has 2 feathers left on his neck - looking much more like a porcupine (as maureen pointed out) OH YES so during my ritual Maureen shows up, very resourceful, googled the address and found me.

I'll let her tell you what she thought of the place..

Day started off bad, but getting better. Not even going to mention this morning.

I have a hatch going on. I didn't bother to candle, I just locked everything down and figured I'd surprise myself.

Bad part of muy hatch is the first out way a FBCM which I was so excited about, but the yold hadn't been completely absorbed and was still attached. As a couple of others hatched out, they started picking on him and now there's a rupture. Don't think he will make it.

I have 2 pink eggs hatched and I know one if from my EE, but I have a different looking chick in there, so I

I have a SPPR in there too. One more FBCM is zipping, but looks like it's having trouble. Other than that I don't see any more pips at all and there's a lot of eggs in there.



BTW I'm not bored with this convo either. Matter of fact I find it interesting.

Cheryl, I cant not thank you enough or tell you how impressed I am with your attitude and caring. ALL of your birds are amazingly cared for and loved. Thank you so much!

I loved our field trip to Sienna Ranch, even if I did take the scenic route hehe (I never get lost btw just take scenic routes) What they are doing at Sienna Ranch is very admirable. I hope to be able to take my daughter Jordan and a friend to visit and get a tour. They have so much knowledge to offer. I still think your flock is gorgeous even if they are led by a porcupine instead of a rooster!

If anyone is in the area take the time to visit, I highly recommend it!

My husband is already planning out HIS trip to your house....eeesh good thing we have a few acres....he is worse than me when it comes to more birds!

Ok Walt that is about the funniest thing I've heard....THIS IS SO LATE IT IS ALMOST EARLY...sounds like a country song in the making

Ok so until someone tells us they are bored with this topic, I could use some extra learning Walt...WHITE really?, yikes what the heck will those babies look like... why not a brown? Do I have the room?, hmmm not really but since there is only one other breeder and then sandhill the hatchery, I really want to do the right thing to get this breed back on the map. So then what, I put the white male on half the girls? Then breed the chicks back to the other MF roo? I only have 6 pullets & 5 cockerels. Assuming I have 3 good roos in the end, how many do you think I should keep? 2? Maybe put the white roo on 2 girls and the MF roos on 4 girls...or is that silly, just keep one roo...? oh man Just don't have much room at the ranch for a bunch of little pens.

Then of course the ultimate question is where is this perfect white roo coming from?

And at what age should I get one and how old should he be? The ones I have are 3 1/2 - 5 1/2 months

AND DARN IT!!! those white leg ones I have in my layer pen have FABULOUS type, can I paint their legs?
