Bay Area BYCers!

Wow sounds like a long night! I hope you get some rest soon. You know there must be something about buff laced Polish...Lol Jeremy lost his...Cheryl found me one at stockton last year. Only had her a month or so she got attacked by a hawk...Bought 3 more chicks lost 2 have one gold lace who is demented....thought I lost her last night she wasn't in the coop...nope she was in the fig tree, at least she is smart enough to go high.

I'm Very thankful Walt chimed in. Cheryl has been a help too...and of course Jeremy for entertainment purposes....if you didn't see the lovely picture he posted a few posts above apparently its me looking for Buff Brahma eggs...thats about how I feel as well. I can get a hold of eggs, but I don't want to brood....no energy for it.

I found someone locally who had Dark brahmas his were awesome of course he only had one female. So we took her, and she was super sweet, then ended up getting Cocci and passing last week. Even after I started treatment.

Well I'm on my way home from Newman. I left Bridget's place with a beautiful Black Sumatra pullet, a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana pullet with wonderful color in her tail and a White Ameraucana that my partner had to take home.

I'm very happy.

You know you just passed my house and have 2 of the extact birds I need? That's called greed Jeremy! Now bring that Sumatra and AM pullet to me! I need better feet on my Sumatras. They have no yellow on the pads. I need yellow. And LD needs a couple of girls.

Speaking of LD, he's become my shadow, thinks he's a house chicken, because I am constantly running him out the back door. He thinks the kitchen is his room and I'm trying to teach him that there are no grown birds in the house. But yesterday I picked him up and HIS crop was almost empty. He's out in the yard all day, theres a 5 gallon feeder out there with them, lots of water. Later he had come in the back door and Makayla said he looked hungry. I told her to give him a treat and put him out. Then when I was one my way back out there, she had a bag torn down with scratch and was sitting on a bucket I store feed in and he was on another one next to her. He ate for a good 5 minutes. He did eat pellets and he had some greens (I can't remember what I had in there for them) but later he still felt light and his crop wasn't full. I'm going to add some vitamins today to the wateres and not sure what else to do. Maybe he'd like a peanut butter sandwhich. He seems to really like those when there's something left on a plate.

I over slept and missed my grand daughter's competition. I was so upset. She always asks my daughter to make sure I'll go. I wasn't as far as Santa Cruz and I made that one, but they were rained out, so haven't seen her compete at all this year. So now I'm home and I need to figure out how to build a frame to hold chicken and rabbit cages, so I can get all these animals out furthur. I'm still so tired though, I just hope I can move. I've been trying to keep my back from going out all week, but the day I spent reinforcing rabbit cages put me in a daze and I can feel the disks sliding.

I have lots of cages I got at auction and some are about 1/2 way started and the others are waiting for me to figure out how I can use them. I'd like to use them for rabbits, but they would take up more room that way and I'd have to have even more. Sometimes it's just hard to get things done when you don't have anyone to bounce ideas off of. I wish my van ran, I'd be able to go find more stuff to recycle and use.

OK I'm still tired, can you tell? LOL I need to get something done.

Kim, Bridget is selling her entire Blue Wheaten flock, she had I think 8 or 9 girls and 3 boys that she's looking to rehome. She's leaving for Crossroads tomorrow but when she gets back you should go pick some up!

We have a new puppy!!! Her name is Pixar (Pixie for short) and she is a 6 month old Catahoula mix (at least that's what we think she is) who was rescued from a ditch a couple months ago. She is very timid and it is taking her a while to adjust to us. She is especially nervous around men which would make sense if she was abused before she was dumped in the ditch.

I am hoping that we can train her to accept our chickens as part of her pack. My chickens are used to free ranging our whole 1/3 acre yard but to protect them, my DH put up a temporary 8 ft. fence to divide the yard. I know that several of you have dogs that co-exist with your chickens. Please share any training suggestions you have! My chickens and I would really appreciate the help! :)

Thank you for the update on Lemon Drop! Monet talks about him often and wonders how he is. We would love to see a pic if you ever get the chance to snap one of him.
