Bay Area BYCers!

Is there a way to get them there?

I think that is where I come in!

Of course I can bring them with me.

I don't mean to be a downer when it comes to bird sales/trades, but...

Cheryl, where exactly do you plan on keeping birds, chicks, etc.?

They absolutely cannot be brought into the Zoo, this includes the parking lot and our picnic site.

Bringing animals of any kind could potentially get the group kicked out of the location... it wouldn't be much of a party then.

ETA: To clarify- ALL sales/trades that are happening on Saturday must take place outside of the Zoo property, this does include the parking lot and our picnic site. Bringing animals of any kind to the Zoo could lead to the removal of the group from the picnic site.

Sorry guys, I hope this isn't too much of an inconvenience for everyone.

Bummer - I thought that being able to share birds was one of the great things about chickenstocks. We'll figure something out Kim. Maybe you could call me before you are ready to leave and I could have someone meet you outside of the parking lot with your new babies.

We'll do a get together at the ranch so we accomplish all our goals in the spring or at my house again..

Chooklet I'll figure out a spot to park outside, I've got many chicks to deliver and picking up sir giles brother. So I have to make that arrangement as sewandgrow karen is coming from so far.

The other possibility is that anyone that wants chicks or the two pure lav & buff ameraucana pairs can also stop at my house/ranch afterwards.

More silver penciled rocks & coronation sussex chicks exploding daily!! So fun!

Very true, but when we decided on this location it was understood that no animals of any kind were allowed at the site.

Last year I know only a few folks brought chooks to sell, so it didn't seem like it would be an issue for this year's event.

There's a corner on 98th Ave at the bottom of the hil on one side of the freeway and a gas station right outside the turn to the zoo. What I'm trying to remember and that could have been changed, because I haven't been there in over a decade, is distance from the park area to the parking lot. If I remember right, it's a far amount, so there's also the problem of even keeping them under cover in a car. Depending on weather it could be very cold or very hot. I have a black car and when the sun hits it, it's like an oven.

The reason for no animals is a health issue for the animals at the zoo. I can remember when dogs were allowed and the safety issue we had when I worked in Baby Zoo years ago. The goats and Llamas would stampeed around kids, the dogs would pee on things, etc. Someone had brought in a Macaw and walked the place and there were birds that had to be put down a week or two later. I had Macaws myself back then as well as a few other exotics and I washed in bleach and burned my clothes when I saw this bird on the guys shoulder. It's been a while and ,y brain no longer holds what it used to, so I don't remember what it was that I thought the bird had, but later on, that's what the zoo birds caught. I was the youngster back then and no one thought I knew what I was talking about.

That all being said, there's no way we should even attempt to take them out even in the parking lot. I wish I had my van running. We could have put any birds in there and then met to pass them off afterwards. This will be a fun day though. Who better to hang out with other than chicken people?

I was thinking that before we have the next Chicken Stock, which you can't have too many of, I'd like to try and do a Chicken Swap. I'm trying to come up with a place and time for it, but thought I'd do it on this side of the Altamont, in a place where it wouldn't be hard to get to from the Bay Area or the Sacramento Area. Just someplace in between. If I can't get enough people interested in it, then I'm just going to wait until someone else puts things together and not bother. Anyway I was going to post it on the California thread and see what I can come up with.

chicken swap count me in

off to dumpster dive for Dyann's and my birds. Maybe I can get the store to just back up the truck into my yard next time!!
