I would love to see some recent pictures of Cosette!

My Blue Wheatens that are from Jean Ribbeck all have a tendency to go very pale pretty quickly into their lay cycle, I was talking to Dawn about this at the Chickenstock. I only now have 1 of my original Ribbeck hens and Periwinkle from that line. Some of the other pullets that have started to lay are giving me a richer hued egg, I'm hopping that they will continue.

They are doing fine. They look lonely with just those 2 in a pen all by themselves though. The minimum in all the other pens is a trio like the Blue Andalusians & Claude,Sophie & Rose. Usually I have 5 or so of one breed/variety housed together.
We are fine tuning the pens to make sure everyone has adequate cover for the rains that will soon be coming. Funny how all my birds have survived all these years without so much fuss & now we are scambling to make sure they are all comfortable. My old pens had solid covers but open to the air on at least 3 sides & everyone did fine. I just keep getting more &more into this........LOL

Karen, I bet the look pretty small in a big pen all by themselves! Don't worry though, they're going to get bigger than you ever could have imagined very soon. The first year I had these guys I could not believe at how much they just kept growing.

Toby is definitely a happy dog, sometimes a little too highstrung for me, especially after a long day at work. He always puts a smile on my face though and that's what I love about the little guy.

Anyone heard of Basque hens. Marraduna Basque (Euskal Oiloa) A relatively new breed to North America, from Spain originally. I'm getting 3 dozen eggs to hatch next week, I've been loving them from afar!! They are gorgeous IMO and have the reputation as one of the friendliest chickens around. Could they beat out the perennially popular Orpington in friendliness?

Yep I just can't help myself, especially at this time of year, cuz it's so nice to have new layers in spring!!

I just got a iphone 4s and I am playing around with uploading pics. I took these from my camera and then downloaded them to photobucket. I'm just trying something out.

My barred pullet was very nosey with my new phone.
"what do you have mom?"

Oh I want to share one more picture. I am a Head Start teacher and we are studying eggs. We are hatching some of my eggs and are on day 15 (this pic was last week).
The kids are SO EXCITED. It was cool because I candeled the eggs in the class on day 10 and you could see so much. The kids said the embryos were dancing. lol - We are due to hatch Wednesday and so far they all look good. I love watching how excited my class is about this project.
Oh and don't worry about the low humidity. I dry incubate until day 18.
