Bay Area BYCers!

so sorry you are in this position. My vet in Lafayette will put down a chicken or perhaps one of us can help. We've had to cull many times and I'd be happy to help but we are leaving town. The vet's office is Four Season's Veterinary hospital - I believe Dr Miller and my vet Dr wallace are able to help or there is also a 24 hour emergency staff that can surely help. 925-938-7700

$100? Really? That's insane, I'm sorry, but since chickens to a lot of people are now pets, they just seem to take advantage. I'm going to see if someone on the California thread is close enough to help you. Maybe someone is even close and can do if for you humanely. I'm really sorry you have to do this, but if he's in pain, it makes since.

Thanks guys. It's nice to know I can count on the BYC community, especially as a chicken newbie.

I booked that vet for tonight - I know the price is crazy but I just need it to be over, especially after my trauma yesterday of trying to do it on our own (had him in the cone and just started shaking violently...it's a physiological thing really).

I really appreciate you guys being ready to help. We often feel alone in our mini-homesteading adventures...it's nice to feel a sense of community. I will be looking to you all in the near future to purchase a (*female!!!*) pullet or two to flesh out our soon-to-be pair.

And now for a very unpleasant afternoon.....

So sorry. I have some Olive Egger chicks if that will help. All feathering in pullets! Never happens that way for me with purebreds unless it's all cockerels.

Jessica Baldwin, DVM at Analy Vet in Sepastopol will do it for $5, plus the office vist (~$55).
Many 4Hers can do it; try your local 4H office in the phone book. If none of the kids can do it they may have a freezer camp counselor. I have one in Healdsburg; very humane & quick. PM me if you need his info.
Good luck,
Laurie

Happy New Year Everyone! Hope you all had splendid holidays. I feel like I've been away from the thread forever! Like Debbi, the holidays were just a mess for me! Tried to repaint rooms etc. before family arrived. The holidays were tough this first year without my dad, but he was with us in spirit! Best wishes to all for a great 2012!

By the way! Love all the pctures! Such beautiful babies!!!

Hi, TMecklenborg:

I live just north of Petaluma and use Rivertown Feed in Petaluma. The feed prices are reasonable and they seem to have poultry for sale through the year (chicks in the spring through September).
