Of course it was Crosby, and yes I've already packed his bag. Very bad puppy also got into a garbage bag with old incubated but not developed eggs, You'd think he'd be sick, but he continues to exhibit badness.... Chooklet..he's all yours!

What all did you get Dawn?

I think a lot of the hatch rate depends on the birds that the eggs came from. I've had nearly 100% hatches sometimes and then only hatch 1 chick out of a dozen eggs the next. We can try as hard as we can to control incubation but I feel like the birds that sired the potential chicks have a lot to do with what to expect hatchability wise. How diverse the line is, whether or not the birds are healthy, how far along they are in their lay cycle, the weather and how the birds are reacting, I think it all plays a role in incubation. Among many, many other things.

I'm always happy with a 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs, I try not to expect much more.
ARGH...I was just finishing a message on this when Firefox crashed. It is so frustrating to start completely over!!!

Hatching Splash Marans and OE (Lil' Joe over the wheaties) for local requests for chicks.

For me:
ORPS: gold-laced, lemon cuckoo, lav/isobel/porcelain
Splash Marans: I would like another hen from a different gene pool
Silkies: So I don't have to do this hatching stuff again! (Buff, Blue Partridge, Splash)
Partridge Chanteclers: for Meat (although my Buff is laying every day!)
Golden Cuckoo Marans: Add another dark egg layer to my flock
and a Silkied Ameraucana egg! Should be interesting!

and in trade for my Splash Marans eggs, received:
Mottled Bantam Cochins (too cute!) I guess I'll have a friend for the Silkie!
Cream Legbars
BCM

Dont' know how many I'll get, so hoping for the 50% hatch rate. Eggs came from TX, PA, and KS. Will sell off the extras.

I'll send good hatching vibes your way, I want to see pictures of those wee ones when they're out of the eggs!

I've got Sumatras in lockdown right now, from my Platinum/Dun pen and there are 2 Khaki Sumatra eggs in there too.

WOOHOO what fun! good luck

Darn first little jubilee out is splay legged. I always cull splay-legged, but I'm going to splint it in hopes that maybe it will get better and I can keep in my backyard -

In my brooder I have 3 week old Barnevelders & Mille Fleur Leghorns chicks available

Just hatched Mille Fleur Leghorns & Coronation Sussex

AND I will have a steady supply of all my breeds going forward, including silver penciled rocks & Jubilee orps

It's crazy here but I'm LOVING it!

MOM? ARE YOU IN THERE??

JUBILEE CHICK ON TOP OF STUFFED ANIMAL....CAN WE SAY HUGE!!!

MORE BABIES

I DON'T KNOW IF I SHOWED OFF MY NEW INCUBATOR - SHANSHAN51 BUILT IT FOR ME AS A GIFT (SO NICE!!!) - IT'S AWESOME (SHE'S SELLING THEM...FYI)

AND LASTLY, DID YOU KNOW THAT A WARM BROODER/HATCHER ROOM IS GREAT FOR SPROUTING SEEDLINGS!!

I can't believe you're selling him Jeremy - he's stunning!

Thanks Kelly.

I'm bringing my Splash Orpington rooster Neville home, I can't risk keeping two boys at home right now, so unfortunately Poe has to go.

Fortunately I was able to hatch over a dozen chicks from his pen before this point and I have a good assortment of Platinum (his color), Dun (Chocolate), Blue and Black chicks in the brooder. My breeding goal with my trio was to do exactly that, hatch the chicks of the colors I needed to continue forward with the project. I'll be outcrossing now to a flock of Sumatras that are descendants of Tom Kernan's birds. He's proabably one of if not the top breeders of Sumatra in the country. Mixing that line with mine should greatly improve type and confirmation to the SOP.
