Bay Area BYCers!

we have been hatching in the same incubator for a year now. And we use a Styrofoam hatch er. In the last month we have noticed a huge increase in the number of blood rings. Do you think this can be caused by the extreme heat or our incubator? What would you recommend to correct this issue.I have not had bad comments from my clients as far as their hatch rates so I figure its just on my side.

Flies!!!! I am no using this fly attractant in a hanging container. It smells awful but appears to be catching lots of flies.

Anyone have Any ideas??
Thanks

They don't like worm juice and the liquid from black soldier flies as well. You can get empty 2 liters and make traps out of them too with a bit of water and something stinky. I find the thing that attracts them the most is the rotting corpses of other flies. They are also attracted to moist areas so don't let drips last too long. Diatomaceous earth dries out areas and can hurt larvae with its microscopically sharp ends without affecting us or the birds too much (try not to inhale too much though).

Oh and one of your best allies is the carpenter ant. Maggots don't last long when they're in the area. With the trash bins it might be better to let the ants get in if you notice the flies breeding in there.

I haven't been keeping up either but I think a couple of friends & I are going to rent a cabin at the KOA & stay so I am game. I amsure PetRock is better at keeping track of things than I am so she probably already knows all about it. I get to running around in circles & lose track of what I am doing on a regular basis.....LOL

I don't know if I'm any better at keeping track of things.

My life disappeared into the wedding whirlpool this summer and I'm still not totally recovered. I seem to be able to get just the very basics done and that's it. Dawn did send me a message about meeting at Willy Bird's again. They are planning on meeting at 11:15 on Tues morning. I personally wish that it could be earlier. Walt is judging the birds on Tues but I'm not sure what time. I would like to look at them all before the judging starts and then watch him judge them. Walt, if you see this, what time does the judging start?

Here are the details from Dawn:
Willie Birds (1150 Santa Rosa Ave) Tuesday the 11th at 11:15 am!

They haven't told me what time I am judging, but if they want it finished along with the other things they want me to do, they better let me start in the morning. I will start around 9 if I have anything to say about the starting time.

Walt

I am game for whatever whoever sets up. After the fiasco after Walt's class day I am hesitant to take birds to anyone but hatching eggs would be okay I guess. I am not willing to put myself in anyone's line of fire. I do not vaccinate for Mareks but have not had a problem myself. I have lost a few in this heat wave both brooder chicks & grown birds but not many so I can't complain. I did have everyone at the recent get together step into a tray of disinfectant before we went out to the chickens though.
I am looking forward to Santa Rosa & Petaluma KOA. Debi do you & Money play cards?? That is something Olivia & I do together alot.. I can bring playing cards, the card tray & the card shuffler I bought off Ebay because Oli's hands are too small to shuffle by herself......LOL
