Bay Area BYCers!

Just wanted to share a few pics of my Orpington bantams. I'm breeding Chocolate, BBS, & Mauves this year.

A couple of my older birds.

(Sorry about the cruddy quality, took this pic with my phone)

& my younger trio, the male & one of the pullets are Mauve, & the pullet in the middle is Blue.

Who else in the Bay Area is breeding this season?

My beloved Splash Marans are set to start tomorrow. Some under my broody Bantam Calico Cochin (3 eggs), and 6 in the "bator, along with some OE and Pita Pinta eggs (3 under broody)!

Here's little Ethel who was VERY serious today. Usually she talks to me and I take her out for a dust bathe and poop. NOT today...she was mumbling to her chickees! So cute. Hoping for pips in the morning, with heavy rain. Hmmm.. Wonder if hubby would mind a broody in the house for a few days...

Hi DiDolan,

Ethel is a Calico Cochin bantam, and weighs about 1.5 pounds. GREAT mama...her first time around she and friend Lucy hatched concurrantly, and within ten days had integrated all hicks and were sharing one broody house by choice!
Here is Lucy, a Mille Fleur Cochin with a chick.

And both mamas with ten-day old chicks last September.

She looks serious! LOL. She's a pretty little thing. I never thought I would keep bantams, but I looove my itty bitty Orps. I hope your Splash Marans do well for you Dawn! Are the OEs you set from your own birds, or did you get shipped eggs?

I've actually got a bunch (12+) of Orp eggs I'd love to set, but someone won't let me... so I'm sitting on my hands. I wish I had a broody right about now!

Love your Mauve & Blue pullets!! (Forgot that part. Oops!) Do you have any splash? I'd love to see photos!

I don't have any Splash... yet. I have a Mauve pair, so they should throw a few Splash chicks for me. I had terrible luck last year hatching Blues, and had zero luck with getting any Splash. The only Blue I hatched ended up being a cockerel (of course...) AND as he matured his comb developed side sprigs. So, he was culled.

Crossing my fingers that this year there are Splash in my future.

I love the family photo; all are so pretty and happy. They are lucky to be able to free range with their chicks, which I am not able to do where I live. Too many predators, and always have to confine the chicks until they are close to adult size. Awww only pound and a half..so tiny little colorful balls. Lual
