I used fishing line when a hawk was having a smorgie board @ my house. I have not lost another chicken. I have an acre, so I ran it in corners and a few strands from tree to tree. I placed the food under the line. Pretty cheap fix. Line lasted for 4ish months, then started to come loose in areas, so is mostly removed now.Yesterday, a large red tail? hawk flew into the garden and took the head off one of my two month old BCM chicks.
We are going to net the area again (had a net over the koi pond for years), increasing the netting area.
I just read on another thread that someone used pennant stringers as a deterrent for hawks. Will that also work?
I have 2 pair of hawks that nest here. One pair is big, and the other is small.
I did not have a hawk problem when I had goats, but as soon as I got rid of the goats...
I have a 6 ft round water trough as a pond for 5 years or so. this summer I was amazed when I saw a big crane perched on my neighbors house. When I mentioned it how cool it was to the neighbor, he shared that he had no more fish in his water troughs. Wow, that thought had not crossed my mind.
). Does anyone know of a store that sells them? I got really lucky at
