Bay Area BYCers!

Hi
Very new to chickens...but super excited to be doing this next spring! We are moving to Aptos on some acreage and building a coop in the meantime til we get there. We've decided on bantams only. Do you know of any good sources within driving distance to get new chicks.

Great to know people from SC on here!

I have lots of breeds and several Bantams. You can pm me and I'll be back home after I go take care of some things and I can let you know what I might have when you're ready. I mostly sell hatching eggs, but I have some hens on eggs right now.

Does everyone else have panting chickens today? Mine are just shy of 8 weeks, and it's about 90* here in Fremont. Lots of panting, they've been drinking water as well. They are still insisting on taking small sun baths. Is this normal?

Pretty much. I'm in Modesto, but a Union City transplant. It's like living on the surface of the sun! Try some frozen veggies or fruit. Frozen watermelon goes over real well and it's good for them too. Heat can be really hard on them. Right now I'm dealing with very hot rabbits. So not good!

Yeah. Two of my girls just moved out to their coop from the brooder this past weekend, at almost 6 weeks old. Although they had their door open to the run, and I have seen them venture out onto the ramp, I don't think they left the coop today. :( They seem to be feeling better now that it has cooled down a little.

It was 92 today but ee have lots of shade. The girls would sit under bushes , then go sunbathe, then go back in the shade.....

As long as it is under 100 they seem OK here.

These are the first five out. The kids couldn't wait any longer to hold them.
Congrats!!! So glad you tried again
