Hi Jeremy,

Which day do you think you might be going to the Stockton show? I think Saturday might be better than Sunday, but I can't stay long b/c of my high school reunion ... I'm just going to see all the different kinds of chicken-related items available ..

Hi Daphne! How was your party? Did the eggies go over well?

I will probably go out to Stockton on Saturday too, it seems like Sunday is the day they basically use for wrapping the event up.

Keep the rain up there in Petaluma! I'm so tired of wet weather... I want it to be sunny again. I want to have a garden again and hens that aren't sodden that will actually lay me eggs!

The block party went well ... one of the ladies that I left some of your eggs with didn't know that eggs came in all different colors!

Believe it or not, Thurs. I went for a routine ckup, and one of the lab techs had no knowledge that chickens' egg laying cycles depend on daylight, and thought they had eggs around the clock !!

** Since I've never been to the Stockton show, I don't know the layout of the area ... maybe some of us could meet up at a certain time near Rob's BYC table, if he's going to be there???

I don't know how crowded it will be, etc. I've only been to guinea pig and rabbit shows and to county fairs where large and small animals were judged. January isn't that far away !

p.s. How was the creamed honey??

Both jars are gone... I didn't eat all of it though.

I have family staying with me and the kids loved a bit of it smeared on their toast in the mornings. I usually had mine with tea, which is fantastic! I'm pretty fond of a spiced black tea, the creamed honey was like the cherry on top that made it the perfect cup of tea. I also sweetened apple cider with it that we made this year, that was delicious as well!

You'll have to put me down for another couple jars, maybe I could pick them up from you at the show?

I can't believe it's almost 2011 either! I still remember ringing in 2010!

YAH! Tuesday is the Winter Solstice, that means that every day after that, we are going to get more minutes of light in our day....

Let the laying begin!!!

Only 7 more days till I get this little guy. He's a silver penciled plymouth rock from lotsapaint (wynette's line) He's only 5 months old so obviously has a long way to go before he's filled out...Hope my two girls like him! (3 weeks in quarantine, of course) BTW is it hard to introduce a rooster to two girls?

Let the breeding begin! woohoo

At that age, more likely than not, the won't accept him at all. They will see him as an "outsider" intruding on their coop and run and most likely will bully him ruthlessly. Mostly due to the fact that he is so young.

If there's a way you can pen him next to the older girls, with their runs sharing a fence, this oftentimes makes integration much easier. Let them interact this way for a couple weeks after quarantine then slowly start letting him spend time with the girls.
