Bay Area BYCers!

Is anybody interested in White Crested Black Polish?

I've secured quality, exhibition stock and will most likely be offering started pairs (male/female) in the springtime!

I only really want one pullet, so my Buff Laced can have a friend. I figured I would sell the rest as pairs to make a little money to supplement the cost of our feed bill. That's the only honest good that can come out of selling birds, breaking even with your feed bill.

I would love a White Crested Splash!

My colleague's Mom called me Friday to tell me her grandson (around 37 years old) was just diagnosed w/ a brain tumor and will have surgery this Friday at UCSF. Very, very sad ...

Jeremy, Your photos are beautiful!! I hope you'll consider entering one for the next BYC calendar.

Two of my three cochins are laying; one hasn't, and she's seven months old .. talk about being "slow to mature" .. am also still waiting for my Wellie to lay - she's six months old ...

That is pretty funny, as they were quiet birds for me! My RIR lead hen is pretty vocal with me, as is the Brahma and the EE purrs...One of the two Wellies had just started to make a happy chirp when I let them out in the morning, but they were never loud unless I was trying to catch them! Laurie said they "talked to her" the whole way down, but they were silent in my car... Maybe the change of scenery has inspired them??

They are used to being out most days, maybe that's it?? Anyway, glad you are getting eggs already! They must like it there!

Clio, my (former) Wellies were almost 8 months before they started laying. On another topic, you are here in Sonoma County, right? Are you good at sexing birds?

My wellie is loud too lol....probably the loudest of the group and she is sort of demented....she talks to barking squirrles....LOUDLY ...LOUDEST egg song...very distinct voice I can tell the difference between her and the other girls sort of skittish but beautiful eggs....

Yeah. Pretty eggs but *bullies*. The two of them are ganging up on the rest of my girls! I was a little shocked to be honest. I'm not so sure about this. Does it get better? I've never tried to integrate full grown chickens before. I'm really unhappy with how they're acting. Should I stick them in a cage and hope they'll be less aggressive when they get out? or what?

Jeepers! I was reading back and found this. Did you get the right birds??

Maybe they transformed in your trunk!

And then I read the part about flying! Wow. Come to think of it, my husband told me one flew over the fence during Christmas break when something startled the girls out in the orchard, but then she came back through a fence before DH went to get her. I totally forgot as I wasn't there. I would have thought they had gotten too big by now. They were bigger than my lead RIR hen and my EE!

But bullies??? These two were at the bottom of my pecking order, with the other hens being pretty easy on them. (you see how pretty they are--no pecked heads, etc!) I saw them peck at the chicks once or twice (normal) but mamahen kept a pretty close watch... Well, I hope it is just a part of their settling in, Anna.

They are very large compared to my chickens - except Buffy. I was a little shocked at the size difference! And Buffy's just so easy-going that she usually doesn't mess with anybody. Anyways - they seem to have settled down a bit. We'll see how they are tomorrow. I'm planning on clipping their wings before I let them out again. The one who flew did settle right down once I got ahold of her. She was very sweet once in my arms.

I think it's probably just standard pecking order stuff; I'm just oversensitive about my littlest ones right now.

Oh Cheryl I'm so sorry.

Hope he gets out of there soon.

Anna I just got home from Fremont, well actually went to Alameda too, about an hour ago.

Did you see me wave?

Jeremy are those Polish LF? I don't want another roo. I think 13 right now is enough, but I'd like some girls maybe.
