Congrats, it's the MOST fun ever!! It's a real nice distraction in my case, being homeless and all...

What are the first eggs you are putting in? Didn't you win some from the auction I ran at my house?

hi Cheryl! yes, I did win those eggs. Trish has contacted me to let me know that she is ready to ship eggs when I am ready to receive them. I could do those first, or I could find some less valuable eggs locally as a test.

whattheflock has a pair of silver ameraucanas that were supposed to provide the first eggs, but that little pullet just doesn't want to lay. she was hatched last april, and hasn't laid even one egg yet. she's a beauty, but ridiculously slow to mature.

I may just set up the bator, and make sure things are stabilized, then go for the gusto with the Barnevelder eggs.

Steffanie I hatched out a few black am chicks this last week but it will take a while before I know if they are girls or not. I planned on holding a couple of pullets for whattheflock. 2 of the black ams came out of the bluest egg! I sure hope they turn out to be girls.

He'll be sooo happy! He's still waiting for the Silver Am to start laying. So weird. I still think it's because his coops are so dark. The silver am pullet and the silver am rooster (which Dylan named Russell Crow) are getting along very well. But, no eggs.

I can't believe that little girl isn't laying yet! I wish I hadn't lost mine I could give you a comparison if she were still with me.

She is almost 11 months old! Even for an ameraucana that seems awfully old. He might try some light in the coop. If the birds don't think there are enough daylight hours that might have something to do with it. Although pullets will usually lay no matter time of year they become mature.

all his birds went on hiatus this winter. most of them have started laying again. but still, not many eggs each week. he's only getting a few, and some days there are none. I really think he needs to do something about the light situation. his yard is heavily treed. Plus, he put the coops under a giant redwood because it was away from some complaining neighbors. Now, no complaints, but no eggs.
