Jeremy, how is Dolly today? And yourself? I am hoping neither of you catches a chill from the strenuous activities Saturday afternoon!

Hi all you John Blehm order folks--my lav AM's are sooooo small compared to the other chicks, and one in particular (calling it Teensie, as that is just what s/he is!!!). I thought s/he might not make it as s/he was also sleeping way more than the others yesterday... But I ground up the med chick crumbles very finely, and today he is one of the first to rush over to get some when I stick my hand in! Yippee!! Only one chick pasty just a bit this morning...none tonight, so I hope we are over that phase.

I have four with tail feathers today and four without. Are those girls, by any chance???? The lavs are so tiny that I can't tell yet!

I don't think so. He's in the coop outside now. I just don't know, but I'd swear someone put a different bird in my coop. I know they didn't, but his beak was fine before. I need to find something to bring down the swelling. Not sure what though. Never seen anything like this. Poor guy. I have a clicking noise I make at them and they come running. I walked off, because I wanted to check the others and clicked and he came running. When I pet the other two, he squeezed in for his. He's such a pretty bird and he looks monsterous right now. No help from my thread though. I have helped so many people with other, but I haven't seen this or heard of it, so have no idea to help myself. If anyone had posted about it I wouldn't have known what to do, so that's probably the problem.

Often the parents were more challenging than the kids were.

Actually that's not fair, most of the parents were gems too. It's just that the one or two challenging individual stick in your mind.

yea, it was two white ones from you Kim and a brown one from pnp4kidz...my daughter enjoyed her cheese omelet for dinner and I got to really SEE the bullseye for myself. I'm good, I think we've got pretty good chances with how many I still have left in there, and I've got the box in a spot that isn't easily accessed by them on their own.

I've got some pretty great parents and kids so far. They have their quirks of course, but all in all a good group, the one not so great one I didn't realize wasn't so great until the end of her short stay here, but that's water under the bridge.

Boys are just so much rougher than the girls! And destructive at times for no apparent reason! When I was preggo I didn't care boy or girl, but my daycare boys make me glad I had a girl!

I lost my little roo.

I tried putting thigs on him to bring down the swelling, but nothing worked.

His face was so swollen that I know that's what was causing his beak to look cross beaked.

He followed me all over the yard yesterday and I feel so bad right now.

Dawn, your babies are so cute!

You really did end up taking home a great assortment.

Neville had not only his first photoshoot this weekend but his first "conjugal" visit with his future hens to be, too.

Everything went surprisingly well. I was expecting the girls to chase him away from the feeder or thump him on the head if he got too close, but there was no fussing between them at all. They ate together, drank together AND... Neville attempted to mount two different girls! I'm thinking maybe the change in scenery might have jump started his chicken libido, so I might just have fertile eggs sooner than I had anticipated.

Anyways, here's my new boy.

I have an abundance of lav roos. One with the 3 week olds and I was trying to make sure I took 2 on saturday, but not positive. So hard to tell with day olds. My main concern was pasty butt. LOL I think my silvers are all roos though darn it! We'll see. Figures since I only have silver roos. Maybe I should have stuck with the 5 each like I started out with, but I knew others wanted chicks.

I like to have extra roos for Olive Eggers. I have a couple of BCMs that don't lay as dark of an egg as I like, so they are my breeders for those. Before I had Bon Jovi stolen I had him in with them and all of them hatched out blue with feathered shanks. I just love them. I wanted the extra lav roos for the same reason. Lav, feather shanked Olive eggers! Looks like I'll be using all these silver for that too. LOL

I'm just so upset about my little lav guy though. he was just awsome already. He was mellow and loved attention. I just have no idea what happens. I'm wondering if something is out in the yard he could have gotten injured on since his feathers looked broken off around his eye. I just don't know. I was thinking about it and Sunday I picked him up to check his leg (don't know what he did to that either) and didn't see anything. I remember hlding him in front of me and looking at him and talking to him. The beak was fine. I know it was. I was looking at his comb and looking for saddle feathers and hackle feathers and hoping they'd be in soon. He was fine other than the limp and that was getting better. I just don't get it.

I know how sad we were to lose our little one that we only knew for a few days. It must be really hard to lose one that you've raised to adulthood. We have only had chickens for a year now and only lost the one baby.
