Bay Area BYCers!

So I won't be breeding the mille fleur leghorns afterall at the ranch, so I'm looking for another breed...

Now if you had all the room in the world what would you breed?

What should it be? Wheaten Marans, tolbunt polish...other ideas?

I've been trying to figure out the same thing.

I need something unique that will hopefully help to pay for my chicken addiction, like paying for feed.

Are the geese Sabastoples??? sp

Sebastopol geese have the curled feathers, they are gorgeous.

How funny, those are two of my most favorite breeds...

Good luck finding Tolbunt Polish, they're almost impossible to come by. Most folks who breed them have such small flocks they're not willing to share with anyone right now because they're trying to get their own numbers up.

Then you have all of the issues due to inbreeding, so few Tolbunts were imported that the lines have become too closely related and now the birds have serious problems. Many breeders have begun outcrossing to LF Gold Laced Polish (also hard to come by if you're looking for quality birds...) to increase vigor, hatchability and bring in fresh blood in hopes of then breeding back to the Tolbunt standard (which isn't accepted by the APA) to eventually breed a better, more healthy bird.

I've looked into Tolbunts, they're one of my "wish list" chickens.

I do believe Greenfire Farms has Tolbunts, I'm not sure how willing they are to share or how hearty their line is though...

Why not Lavender Orpingtons? You could acquire some English Black Orpingtons from Joy or Julie and really make some gorgeous Lavs that actually look like Orpingtons! Those birds would be stunning!

I like the Tolbunts too. I've been watching some breeders who are try to develop some, so maybe some day.

The Sabastopols are the geese I have wanted for a long time. I need another place to live though before I can get them, but was thinking of ordering eggs and selling them hatched.

OH I have Lav Orp that I'm hoping is a roo. Sunnydawn and I split our 2 freebies when we ordered our BBS AMs.

If mine is a roo I was going to use him for a project, but maybe I should hatch out a few more and add those to my flock. Wasn't going to have Orps again. The flock I had to give up I had 10 BOs. Would always get them confused with my Buff Rocks when they'd be in the brooders together. LOL
