All I want to know, is how you got them all to stand still and face the same direction for that picture.

it was actually the funniest thing because all the chicks just posed for the camera. my sister was supposed to help with the photoshoot but she just laughed because they literally froze like statues.

i would love the answer...i have about 7-8 roos that need new homes.

i think they are good to eat around 8 weeks so if it comes down to it that is what we will do.

Jeremy, have you hatched out any Splash wheaten? Blue/Wh x Blue/Wh = 50% BlueWH, 25% Wheaties, and 25% Splash Wheaton, right? What do they look like? If you have stages, I'd love to see chicks, juveniles, and adults!

Here's my Blehm Wheaties out having fun.

Thanks,

And can anyone tell me if this lone Chantecler from the Blehm order is a boy? I am trying to give facial and tail feathers for ease of visuals. I have no clue what these birds are supposed to look like. No one seems to have Buffs on the Chantecler Thread. Merci bien, mes amis!! Dawn

Last question--How long to be sure about the sex for the LAV Ameraucanas from Blehm. One is for sure. The other I thought not, but now the top half of the comb is looking bigger and redder! ARGH. I remember when my Splash Marans pullet suddenly became a roo at 9 weeks...after the other one was confirmed since week 2!
Anyway, thoughts?

Dawn, I know with certainty that I have 1 Splash Wheaten cockerel growing out right now. He's one of my 3 older boys. He's in the big kids pen with 2 other Wheaten Ameraucana cockerels.

As chicks they are creamy yellow like their counterparts, but as they mature they look drastically different. I'll try to get some pictures of my boy soon. He's mostly Splash all over right now with lots of red and orange highlights in his hackles and along his back.

Depending on how he matures this year, he might replace Claude as my main breeding roo.

ETA: Out of my last hatch that happened on Easter I had one chick come out with very, very light colored down. It was almost entirely white with a few darker yellow marks on it's back. It's feathered in now and is still quite pale, though it definitely has some Wheaten coloring growing in. I think this little one is a Splash Wheaten, hopefully a pullet, too. It should be interesting to see how it grows out.

Awesome, I would love to see photos of them both. REPLACE Claude? Wow, new Splash dude must be a looker!!

I am thinking of keeping the White Blehm boy...he is so, so pretty!

Kim, I know I'm a bit late on responding to this, but for future reference and to point out to others. Even "required" vaccines aren't truely required. There is a waiver on the back of the vaccination cards in California schools that parents can sign, a "personal beliefs affidavit" that says you want a waiver for your kid now to have some or all of the vaccines.

So... another one of my Blue Wheaten girls has decided to be a momma!

I gave her 8 very special eggs to sit on tonight, she flattened herself out like a pancake over them as soon as I placed them under her. I've also got some Coro Sussex eggs in the bator that will hatch not too long before the eggs I placed under her tonight. So she'll adopt a few of those, too.
I love broodies, having them rear the chicks is SO easy. You get to sit back and take in all the cuteness.
