I've had lots of Polish. For some reason my BCWs were my favorites.

I've never been able to tell at 4 weeks. The feathering and crest comes in better around 8 weeks and then it's pretty easy. Like I said I've had LOTS of them and at one time they were my only breed, so don't know if that helps.

I've seen crazy crests come in pretty young and later get real neat and poofy, but not roo wild. I guess I did have more luck though when I watched crests and if they were tight as young chicks they did usually turn out to be pullets, but not always. If you see a little more comb, a little wider, they are usually roos. Sometimes you won't see any comb at all on the pullets.

I've been hunting for Buff hens for my poor lonely Bling for over a year. Only time I ever see them, they are just too much. I've had a hard time getting polish to hatch here for some reason. I think I've bough close to 100 eggs the past year and not one hatched.

Thank you SO much for the info....at least I'm not going in blind...kinda sorta! LOL I can wait to go get them. She says she has all ages. It's a two hour drive and my truck gets 11.9 miles to the gallon

, so I'll have to have an excuse to make the trip (besides that I REALLY want a White Crested Black Polish or two). I'm hoping she's a member here (forgot to ask)....because IF the place doesn't feel right, and the birds don't look right, I won't support that and I'll have to go home empty handed.

She doesn't have any pics????? Anyone around Cottonwood know about this breeder?

I wonder why you're not having luck hatching Polish? Maybe a humidity thing? Modesto is pretty dry right? I've only hatched with an incubator once so I don't know much...except that I won't do it again!

Hope you have some luck in the future.....100 strikes is heartbreaking! Oh, and she's asking $4.50....

The price certainly seems more than fair to me. Of course your travel adds so much. I forgot to look where you are & I don't even know where Cottonwood is. I have White Crested Black Polish eggs in the incubator right now on a whim & they are due out 6/29. There are only 6 of them. They are shipped eggs, so I am not going to get to hyped about them. My luck with shipped eggs is spotty at best.
I need to look up Cottonwood & see how far it is. When are you going?

hmmmm I don't know.

Karen are we dry? It's almost 9 am and I''m soaking wet. LOL

There is someone else with Polish out here and I can't remember who it is. At one time I had their birds and would have bought from anyone else. I wouldn't have even bought from someone who owned their birds, just from them. Why can't I remember their names???

If it helps at all. When I wanted my Davis flock of BCMs last summer, my husband (who was not a chicken person) drove me one early a.m. to pick up the flock he bought me. We left at 8am and got back just before dark. Only took a half hour to load all of the birds, so all that driving in a gas guzzling van with not AC in the middle od summer. Heck I need to birds from Reno and can't get to them. I'm dyin here .

I have a hatch going, One pipped and then got really quiet, barely moved. I finally got it out, but it didn't make it completely out of the shell during the night, so didn't make it. I had 3 others hatch before this one. One OE and 2 BCMs. These are all shipped eggs. Anyway I'm going to have to find the auction or swap, cause I have 2 yellow chicks, the OE and one from the brown eggs. Looks like my Wheaties did when they hatched. Been so busy I haven't even checked for feather shanks except on the yellow ones. More eggs in there, but nothing going on at all.

I have 130 eggs due the 19th. Think I may have been a bit carried a way. I had a roo problem as of late, so trying to get pullets for some of my breeds and colors.

Karen, are you keeping what you get (positive thinking) or selling them? I'd be interested if them. Have you candled them yet? They should be a pretty easy egg to see through, yes? Cottonwood is about 234 miles from you. Up near Redding. It's only about 80 miles from me. When I searched it yesterday it picked up Cottonwood Rd near Sac then my husband said it was over near Redding so just an hour and half away. My husband needs to pick up materials in that area so he said he could pick some up probably tomorrow. I could pick some up for you, I think she said she has all colors....I'm 171 miles from you, up in Paradise (up the hill from Chico), so a little closer then driving to Cottonwood for you. I'm a little closer then Cottonwood or I can keep them until my husband has to go down closer your way and you could meet him somewhere. Or you could just come up! Either way if it would help anyway. I know they're hard to find! I've been looking for months and months! I'm SO excited thinking I may get some of these crazy chickens. My buff one Dizzy freaked out after we lost a cockerel to a skunk and at first she wouldn't leave the coop, then she'd go off and hide and I had to find her every night. One night I couldn't find her and now she's been gone a week! I guess they can get predator fright and just go wacky???

OK I took the 3 chicks out and I don't have a yellow Marans or even a FBCM, so no black or wheatie.

I do have a BLUE and a SPLASH though!!!

More to add to my Davis flock, not matter what they are.

Now I can't wait to see how the OE turns out. I'm getting a cute collection of Olive Eggers.

I lost my little GLC the other day. Don't know what happened, but he was fine and then he was gone. All of the Wellies seem perfect and they were in with him. I'm supposed to get more eggs from the breeder, so hoping to get a better hatch next time.

I have that big hatch coming up and kind of nervouse. I haven't been candling. I stuck them in the Sportsman and walked away. I do have to turn the goose eggs that are in there and spritz them once a day, but the others I just stare at.

I have 110 quail set to hatch on the 23rd along with a few chickens. Going to have to check and see whan all of my Silkies are due. Think they might be the same day. I also have some of my Game X Marans in there, so hopefully I can make enough on them to cover feed for all those babies. I have a pretty good mix of breeds, but didn't keep a list, so now I have to track down, swaps, auctions, emails and pms. LOL I did really good at trading ffor SQ stock and enough mixes to sell, so keeping my fingers crossed.

Don't know if this was for me, but I do have one of yout trios. LOL

I've tried to hatch these out and haven't gotten a single chick. I traded a few and they got one. Seems to be happening with just them and several Maranas. I can get a few of those to hatch. All eatting the same, I've wormed, I've dusted, I've sprayed the coops and runs. I don't see anything on anyone, but for some reason fertility isn't like it was a month ago.

My little bantam Fav pullets are sort of laying. I've gotten about 6 total and that took them a week. LOL I've gotten good remarks on them, so I can't wait to get a few more.

My Wellie babies are looking so good. They're a week + and I'm hoping theres some pullets in there. Last year I got all pullets and I placed some since I couldn't find a roo I likes. Now I have a pen full of roos and I'm hoping to replace those pullets.

I have splash Silkies, lav AMs and lots more FBCM eggs incubating. There are a lot of others in there too. I really need to make a list.

OK this was my break. Back to the yard and the heat.

Do you have any more specific information? Thanks, though; I'll look into that.

Break time. Man it's hot out there.

I'll see if I still have it. I've posted it on here before.
