Bay Area BYCers!

How does one find out if they live in a "No crow zone?" I just assume my neighbors would start to hate me if one of my chicks turns out to be a rooster, lol! I think having one crowing throughout the day would be fun though!

Sometimes the fines for having a Roo are high enough to find out before hand. Really, it's those "blind" roosters that take a shot at it at 3am, then 4am.......hoping it's morning, that your neighbors will complain about.

Hi,

I did a search of the Ordinances for Oakley and found this: http://www.ci.oakley.ca.us/UserFiles/file/agenda/2011%20Agenda/April%2026%202011/Text%20Files/text3_3%20Ord%20Amending%209_1_404%20of%20the%20Muni%20Code%20Dealing%20with%20Horses,%20Roosters,%20chickens,%20Rabbits%20and%20Household%20Pets.pdf

It
looks like up to three chickens are considered household pets. Roosters are prohibited. If you live in two parts of town, you can have a small farm with 10 chickens. There are other restrictions like size of lot and distance from schools and etc.

Check it out.

Ron

Fortunately, my guys don't start that early....at least yet!!

It is actually written in our City Ordinance that we are only allowed hens, thus the no crow zone. So far, my immediate neighbors have been very understanding. One actually likes the sound, I heard her cock a doodle dooing to them yesterday in the afternoon to try to get them to answer!!! I said, "hey! Don't encourage that!" She laughed said she would miss the sound. I will too!

I have 4 silkie Roos that I am getting rid of today. 2 are so handsome. They are 13.5 weeks and 1 started crowing about 3 weeks ago but only intermitedly (like 4 crows in a row every week). They were not very loud...but we figured best to give away now before we get too attached.

Hm... should we be planning the 2011 Bay Area chickenstock by now?

Yes. Would love to meet you all.

Let's get to planning then!

Anyone want to host this year's meet at thier home? Or do you know of a good gathering place?

And I have 1 Blue Wheaten Ameraucana cockerel (aka Lemon Drop) from Jeremy's birds that I need to rehome this week. He is around 18 weeks old and not crowing yet but has been making some loud vocalizations this past week. I'll snap some new pics in the next couple of days. I'm hoping that someone from BYC will want him.

I live so far away from most of you but am willing to travel to meet all of you. Cheryl's home last year was so nice but I didn't know anybody yet. Now it is so much better & I hope that all of us can make the new comers feel right at home. This has been such a rewarding experience overall. I was doing it all alone until I discovered BYC.....LOL
