This is the pen where I keep the show ready runners....this is not the whole herd by any means.

One of my Shamo's cuz most of you are into chickens and not ducks

Hi all,

It must be the week for chickens to die. I was checking on the chickens to see if they had laid eggs outside of the nest boxes and found one of my 28 week old Black Australorp Pullets dead in the side yard. She was fine in the morning and none of the other chickens look sick. I got a new high of 8 out of 10 eggs the day before(I had 10, 2 golden comets that are 10 months old, 5 BA's that are 28 weeks old and 3 RIR's that are 22 weeks old).

No signs of a predator getting her and other than some thing on the beak, just a big chicken(she was the biggest of my 5 BA's.

Since I work at UCD, I dropped her off for a necropsy today and wondered if the other two from the Bay Area were there now too.

So sad, Nella was one of my favorites(ok, they are all one of my favorites). It's amazing how attached you can get to a chicken

Do see any differences in these compared to the ones in the show the other day? The most obvious being that the necks on these birds are three times the length of those.

Walt that poor Shamo looks sickly. You better send him to me right away. You know with all those beautiful Runners you don't want the rep for an aweful bird like that. He'd look good riding in my car. LOL

Ron I'm so sorry about your pullet.

They didn't find desease or anything from my roo I sent in when 3 died but they had the same sumtoms as a heart attack. I think something chased them, but they weren't alone very long and no crowing, so I don't get it.

I was looking at my Favs and I think their toes look funny. The nails curl upwords. What would cause that and if I clip them back, well they grow straight? They are so pretty otherwise.

I wanted to add a few Runners to our Holderreads order but apparently I'm the only one at home who appreciates their looks.
