Bay Area BYCers!

In all fairness to Cheryl, what are the rental fees for Sienna Ranch for several, like 6, hours?

Jeremy,

In renting the zoo area for the meet up, will this also include the admission to the zoo? i.e. I don't know if the meet up area is a separate operation from the zoo itself.

*** it seems that some folks are going to a sale on Saturday, October 15 in Modesto ... would Sunday be a poor choice for those of us who are traveling from way outside the immediate Bay Area? Would Saturday, October 22 seem to be the best time for most of us?

Cute!

I wanted a Cochin for the same reason, an insta-bator! Having a broody raise chicks is SO much easier than doing it yourself in a brooder.

Here's my Barred Cochin, Esperanza ...

Admission to the Zoo is not included with the picnic rental reservation. I believe there may be a discount though, I will look into it.

Although I won't be going I thought I'd throw out a couple of other ideas.

You have the San Leandro Marina - may get a little colder the later in the day, but if anyone intends to have birds to sell you can take them there. Big playground area near the picnic areas.

Garin Park in Hayward - I love the park because of the amount of space, the old working barn, the fishing and you can also take the birds there

Coyote Hills in Femont - Lots of trails, nature spots, wildlife zoo and pretty sure you can take the animals

Tildon Park in Berkeley - So much there to even mention it all, but playground, picnicing, horseback riding, just all types of things. This was my favorite park growing up. And you can take the birds.

Lots of places on the other side of the Bay too.

Also I think you can do this on the campuses. I used to train dogs at UC Berkeley and Stanford, so birds shouldn't be a problem. And you can offer it as a learning event also, which may make it cheap or free.

OK my 2 cents, just thought I'd offer more.

I think the zoo is great, but since I used to work there I'm particular and just love the place. LOL I do want to mention though, that we have had lots of BDay parties in these 2 areas. Both are nice and right next to the playground, BUT....if you have an animal crazy child the sounds from the zoo are going to either make it that you need to pay and take the kids a while, or you may hear from a lot of kids that want to go and if it isn't possible, there might be a lot of mom bugging. Just saying. I've lived through that one. haha Otherwise it's very nice, except kind of bad that people traveling a distance and who would otherwise be able to pick up or deliver birds would be out of luck.

... Thanks ...
... Again, is there a time limit to the zoo rental area? I don't think I read how many hours. The Sienna Ranch events page has parties for two hour blocks as examples. with their prices.

We would have all day at the Zoo with our reservation, from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Jeremy,

Thanks ... I just looked back at your first post and found the info also. Let me know your decision/tally for the calendar date and you can refer to the email I sent you a few days ago.

I think the 22nd or the 23rd would work better overall.

I feel we should plan tentatively for one of those two dates, does everyone agree?

ETA: Just saw Cheryl's post... the 15th/16th and the 22nd/23rd seem to be busy weekends...

What about weekend after Halloween then? The 1st/2nd of November?
